Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Launches October 15 With a Faster Belmont

Belmont's Curse launches October 15 with Rose Belmont, whip grappling, seven weapon categories, Arcana boss powers and a platform performance difference worth checking.

Castlevania is returning to original 2D action on October 15 with Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, a new action-exploration game centered on Rose Belmont. KONAMI developed the project with Evil Empire, while Motion Twin is involved in an advisory role.

The release deserves a closer look because its Dead Cells connection can create the wrong expectation. Belmont's Curse is built around a fixed explorable world, not a randomized run structure, and its progression ties boss victories to a deck of supernatural Arcana abilities.

Rose Belmont moves differently from the older heroes

KONAMI describes the game as a faster and more fluid Castlevania. Rose carries the Vampire Killer whip, but the whip is not only a weapon. It also functions as a traversal tool, letting her grapple to environmental points and pull herself toward enemies.

An October 14 Xbox Wire hands-on describes seven weapon categories, a parry, and the ability to change weapons, spells, and relics while paused. Those are hands-on observations from Xbox Wire, not a Zypher review. We have not played the final build ourselves.

Bosses become part of your ability deck

The Arcana system is the clearest progression idea to understand before launch. KONAMI says bosses including Death, Medusa, Carmilla, and new figures such as Joan of Arc can be sealed into Rose's tarot cards after defeat. Those Arcana then provide spells and special actions.

The system connects exploration, combat, and character growth instead of treating a boss victory as a door that simply closes behind you. Xbox Wire's hands-on also describes Works of Mercy challenges that can improve Arcana abilities, giving completion-minded players another reason to revisit how they use each spell.

Platform choice has a confirmed performance difference

KONAMI's official site lists a 60 fps target for the game generally and 30 fps for the Nintendo Switch version. The same page lists minimum required capacity as 8GB for the Standard Edition and 10GB for the Midnight Edition, with smaller 4GB and 6GB requirements on Nintendo Switch.

The October 15 release covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. Xbox also confirms Xbox Play Anywhere support for its console and PC versions.

That makes platform choice more than a storefront preference. If frame rate matters to you, the Switch listing is the one confirmed exception to the 60 fps target. If moving between Xbox console and PC matters more, Play Anywhere is the feature to check.

Do not buy twice just for the preorder costume

The Xbox store listing currently shows a $29.99 Standard Edition and an Alucard Style Costume preorder bonus. KONAMI has also promoted additional editions and purchase bonuses. Before buying, compare the exact edition contents on your platform and make sure you are not paying again for content already included in a larger bundle.

That warning matters more with a release that has multiple storefronts and editions. A costume bonus is not a reason to skip an entitlement check.

Where it fits in Castlevania history

The story is set in Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Rose is the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, and the game follows her as she takes up the family role while Paris is threatened by monstrous forces and Dracula's castle.

If the new game sends you back through the series, Zypher currently has physical Castlevania titles including Castlevania: Lament of Innocence for PlayStation 2 and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for Xbox 360. They are separate games from Belmont's Curse and use very different structures.
