October 22, 2026: Cyberpunk 2077 just picked up a free update with enough new machinery to make “one more trip through Night City” sound suspiciously like a weekend plan. Update 2.5, officially called the Edgerunners 2 Update, is live on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and supported Mac storefronts.
Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version are due later. That distinction matters, because an “available now” headline is not a magic spell that makes every platform download it at once. CD PROJEKT RED also confirms that owners only need the base game. Phantom Liberty and the Ultimate Edition are not required, and existing saves can continue without starting over.
Dual wielding is the loud headline
The new Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree lets V carry two Power-category pistols or revolvers at the same time, supported by four additional perks. It is a real combat option, not a photo-mode pose wearing a fake mustache. Players who have settled into a familiar handgun build now have a clear reason to revisit it.
CD PROJEKT RED also added new dual-wielding poses for Photo Mode, but the mechanical part is the more interesting change. Update 2.5 is not asking players to admire two guns. It is letting them build around two guns, which is exactly the sort of unnecessary excess Night City understands perfectly.
Glamdocs make cyberware visible
Five new Glamdocs can change the appearance of equipped hand cyberware, including Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System. The official update page lists 40 styles with adjustable colors and decals. That finally gives fashion-focused players something to do with chrome besides reading a stat box and pretending the numbers are a personality.
The update also adds new hairstyles, clothing sets, and Photo Mode material. Those additions are cosmetic, but they fit a game where identity is constantly being bought, installed, and advertised back at the person wearing it.
The Edgerunners quest is more than a branded jacket
A new side quest called Clampdown acts as a prequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. To unlock it, finish The Heist, complete two gigs for Wakako, and wait for her message. The quest can reward a five-piece King gear set, while the new HKGN 102.0 FM station pulls music from both Edgerunners series.
That is a smarter use of the crossover than dropping a costume into a vendor menu and calling it a day. The anime connection gets a story, a location, gear, and music. Players can ignore it, but it has a reason to exist inside Night City instead of floating above the game like an ad banner.
Cross-platform mods come with one important warning
Mod.io integration adds an in-game browser for supported community-made mods on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The library will grow over time, so this is a framework rather than a promise that every PC mod suddenly works everywhere.
On consoles, trophies and achievements are disabled for a save while it is modded. Update 2.5 marks those saves with a dedicated icon, which should make it harder to accidentally turn a trophy run into a science experiment. Other useful changes include save files grouped by playthrough, item filters for apartment and vehicle stashes, and a field-of-view slider on consoles.
Who gets the update today?
- Available October 22: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mac through Steam, GOG, or the Epic Games Store.
- Coming later: Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version.
- Required: Cyberpunk 2077 base game and an internet connection for the download.
- Not required: Phantom Liberty, Ultimate Edition, or a new save.
Xbox players also gain Xbox Play Anywhere support, according to Xbox Wire, with a qualifying digital purchase covering Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC while carrying saves between them. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not listed as Update 2.5 platforms.
Back to Night City, with fewer excuses
Update 2.5 looks substantial because its pieces attack different kinds of friction. Dual wielding changes combat, Glamdocs change presentation, mod.io opens a curated customization path, and the new quest gives Edgerunners fans an actual mission instead of a souvenir rack. Even the stash filters understand that inventory management eventually becomes its own final boss.
