What Changes Beyond the Songs in Just Dance: Decades of Hits?

Adventure Mode is the clearest new idea in this 35-song release. Compare it with 2026 Edition, check phone controls, and separate the Switch and Switch 2 versions before launch.

The clearest reason to look beyond the song list in Just Dance: Decades of Hits is its new Adventure Mode. Ubisoft is putting a set of 35 songs inside a six-decade theme, with worlds to explore and activities between dances. For someone who already owns a recent Just Dance edition, that structure is a more useful point of comparison than the title on the box.

The purchase also involves a few distinctions that matter before the first song starts: the separate Switch and Switch 2 release dates, the control method your group will use, and which music you actually own. Here is what the current publisher and platform information establishes ahead of launch.

Adventure Mode gives the playlist a different structure

Ubisoft's official game page describes a story following Lyra as she tries to rescue Dr. Gigavolt. The route spans six worlds inspired by the 1970s through the 2020s, with dancing, smaller activities and unlockable rewards.

The supplied Adventure screenshot makes that structure more concrete. It shows an Adventure scene with prompts for the activities board and decade selector, a song activity card and a progression level. Those are useful clues about the experience between routines. They suggest a reason to work through the themed content beyond choosing another familiar song, although the preview does not establish the campaign's length or how demanding its progression will be.

Our reading is that this could give a returning player a stronger reason to revisit the game over several sessions. A party might jump straight to its favorites; someone playing regularly could follow the adventure instead. The value of that structure will depend on the finished activities and rewards, which these previews cannot settle.

Compare the songs and modes with 2026 Edition

Just Dance 2026 Edition advertises 40 songs, including APT., Houdini and All Star. It already offers Party Mode, Workout Mode and the phone-based Camera Controller feature. Those features appearing in Decades of Hits should not be mistaken for an entirely new set of systems.

Decades takes a more specific approach to its 35-song selection. Ubisoft's named examples range from ABBA's Mamma Mia and Spice Girls' Wannabe to Turn Down for What and Bad Bunny's NUEVAYoL. The theme creates a way to move between musical eras, while Adventure Mode provides the clearest announced structural difference from the earlier edition.

Five fewer songs does not settle which package a household will enjoy more. Make a short list of the announced tracks you would actually replay, then compare it with what you already own. A favorite routine you return to has a different value from a large menu you mostly skip. The sample songs are enough to assess the general mix; they are not an independently verified complete tracklist.

Keep the new purchase separate from your existing catalog

Ubisoft's September 10 announcement says owners of Decades of Hits and a 2023–2026 edition can access their songs together on the same console. Purchased Music Packs and tracks available through an active Just Dance+ subscription are included in that shared access.

The ownership conditions matter. Buying Decades does not mean receiving every previous edition's music. Your purchased songs and a subscription catalog are different sources of access. Just Dance+ is a streaming service with account, internet and payment requirements; its availability is also region dependent. Check the music you already own before treating the subscription as part of the new game's permanent contents.

Choose the controller method before inviting six dancers

The advertised local maximum is six players. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Ubisoft requires the free Just Dance Controller app for movement tracking; a standard console gamepad is not a substitute for that dance input. On Nintendo Switch, the announcement ties the app requirement to Camera Controller mode. For phone control, Ubisoft's current Just Dance Controller App listing describes holding the phone in the right hand, with no camera needed for that method. Its current iPhone requirement is iOS 15.0 or later, so the older iOS 14.4 footnote in the launch announcement is not the requirement to use when checking an iPhone now.

Handheld phone tracking and Camera Controller are different methods. Do not assume the six-player local maximum means six people can all be tracked by one phone camera. Match the current app and the game's instructions to the way your group intends to play, and check each phone's compatibility before relying on it for the evening.

It is also sensible to finish installation, account sign-in and a short control check before guests arrive. The Xbox listing separately identifies account, internet and subscription requirements for online features. Local player count and online access are different parts of the setup.

Switch 2 owners should check the exact version

The announced launch is October 13, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Ubisoft's English purchase guide lists the separate Nintendo Switch 2 release for November 10, 2026.

That does not mean every Switch 2 owner must wait until November. Nintendo's current Switch-version listing also marks that version as supported on Switch 2. Compatibility with the Switch release and buying the separately advertised Switch 2 version are distinct choices. The cited information does not establish a free upgrade or that a purchase includes both versions.

For physical buyers, verify what the exact regional package contains before buying a sealed or used copy: game media, a download code and an unused entitlement are different things. Ubisoft's US purchase guide lists retail routes, but that list alone does not settle every package's contents or transferability. Our physical game condition guide explains why a complete-looking box still needs its contents checked.

Decades of Hits has a clear announced identity: a themed song selection and an adventure that connects the dances. For a returning player, compare that new structure and those particular songs with the editions already on your console. Then choose the exact version and control method that fit the people who will be dancing.
