Metro 2039 preorders are open, and the useful part of the announcement is not simply that there are three edition names. Deep Silver has spelled out which versions actually contain a game disc, which extras are physical, and where the future Story Expansion DLC fits.

Deep Silver's October 13 announcement lists a February 4, 2027 launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC.

The physical-versus-digital split is worth checking first

The Standard Edition is available physically and digitally. The Deluxe Edition also comes in digital and physical forms, while the Collector's Edition is a physical package.

There is one platform distinction collectors should not miss: Deep Silver says the physical PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions include a game disc, while the PC physical package is code-in-box. A box on the shelf does not necessarily mean the software itself is on physical media.

What the Deluxe Edition adds

The Deluxe Edition includes the base game plus a Story Expansion DLC planned for 2027, a digital soundtrack, and a digital art book. The physical Deluxe version also adds an exclusive Steelbook and a hardback art book.

That makes the physical Deluxe package a different buying decision from the digital Deluxe version. Both include the future story content, but only one is built around tangible extras.

Deep Silver has not detailed the Story Expansion itself yet. Treat it as a confirmed future DLC entitlement, not as a promise about length, setting, playable character, or release month.

The Collector's Edition is the physical-display option

The Collector's Edition includes the full physical Deluxe package and adds the wearable replica Spartan Helmet. Deep Silver lists the game disc on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the helmet, Steelbook, hardback art book, Story Expansion DLC, digital art book, and digital soundtrack.

Availability is retailer- and region-dependent. Deep Silver warns that the Collector's Edition is limited and that pricing, availability, and release dates can vary by retailer and region. That is a reason to verify the exact listing before paying, not a reason to assume every retailer has the same package.

For US customers, the publisher currently points to Amazon and GameStop for the Collector's Edition. We are not reproducing a static retailer price because those listings can change independently of the publisher announcement.

Every preorder gets the Specialist Pack

All preordered editions include the Specialist Pack. It provides early blueprint unlocks for three swappable backpack upgrades:

  • Equipment Specialist Pouch: aimed at faster crafting of advanced weapons and gear.
  • Chemtech Specialist Pouch: adds more gas-mask filters and supports radioactive-area exploration.
  • Munitions Specialist Pouch: focuses on rarer and more powerful ammunition.

Deep Silver says only one of the three can be equipped at a time. The publisher also frames blueprints as part of the normal game, so the preorder bonus is an early-unlock benefit rather than evidence that the underlying system exists only behind a preorder.

Do not confuse packaging with permanence

The physical Deluxe and Collector's Editions are attractive if your priority is a disc, Steelbook, hardback art book, or display piece. The Story Expansion DLC remains digital content even when it is bundled inside a physical edition.

That distinction is especially important for long-term ownership. A disc can preserve the base game's physical media path on supported consoles, while a DLC entitlement still depends on the platform account and service that delivers it. The PC box is more digital still because Deep Silver explicitly lists it as code-in-box.

If your main reason for buying Deluxe is the expansion rather than the collectibles, there is no need to pretend the physical package and digital package solve the same ownership question. Choose based on the part of the bundle you actually value.

What is still unknown

Deep Silver says more information is coming before launch. The October 13 announcement does not provide full Story Expansion details, final retailer availability for every region, or a reason to assume all Collector's Edition stock will remain available until February.

Those gaps are worth keeping separate from what is confirmed. Metro 2039 has a release date, defined edition structure, physical-disc distinction, preorder bonus, and future story DLC. The rest can wait for the publisher to announce it.
