Apparently Far Far Away needed an internet connection. DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered is scheduled for November 10, 2026, and its most useful upgrade might be getting the old gang back together without making everyone sit on the same couch.
Aspyr's official site confirms solo play and up to four players through local, online or mixed co-op. The announced platform lineup covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC through Steam and Epic. Steam's publisher listing independently gives the November 10 release date.
The party is the point
The remaster brings back the movie-inspired action adventure through Shrek's swamp and the kingdom of Far Far Away. Players can switch heroes, using their different abilities to fight and solve environmental puzzles. This is the returning team adventure, rather than a newly announced open-world Shrek RPG.
The mixed multiplayer option is worth watching. A pair on one sofa and friends somewhere else is a common real-life arrangement, and games do not always accommodate it. Aspyr explicitly lists that combination here. Cross-platform play is a separate question: the published feature description does not establish that a Switch player can automatically join a PS5 player.

What the remaster adds
Aspyr advertises improved textures, an updated interface, 4K support and refreshed cutscenes. There is also Photo Mode and an unlockable cheats menu. Those features give returning players more to inspect than a familiar title screen, but the advertised 4K support should not be read as an identical resolution or performance guarantee on every system.
The cheats menu is a particularly appropriate addition for this sort of comeback. A nostalgic co-op game does not need to behave like a ranked tournament to justify existing. Sometimes the appeal is seeing familiar characters cause an unreasonable amount of trouble with friends, then taking a ridiculous picture of it.

Three things to check before gathering the group
- Match the platform. Online multiplayer and cross-play are different features. Make sure your intended group can use the same version or has confirmed cross-platform support.
- Check the actual edition. Switch and Switch 2 are both listed. Read the selected store page rather than assuming one purchase automatically includes both versions.
- Separate nostalgia from performance. Screenshots can demonstrate the visual approach; they cannot prove how the finished release runs on your hardware.
For PC players, Steam currently lists Windows 11 as the minimum operating system and 15 GB of storage. Use the live requirements on that store page when preparing a machine; those entries may be updated before release.
The promising part of this announcement is its practicality. A favorite movie tie-in can lose much of its appeal if assembling a multiplayer session becomes the real final boss. Local, online and mixed play give this return a clearer reason to exist than sharper textures alone. Whether it feels as good in motion is a question for the finished game.
