Squad’s move to consoles now has something PS5 owners can try: a free alpha preview running October 16–25. Offworld’s official preview site lists the full Console Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2027. This week’s test is an early look at that project, with PS5 getting first access.
For players curious about a military shooter built around coordination, the timing is useful. You can investigate its approach before the finished console release arrives, without treating a development build as a final verdict.
How to Find the PS5 Alpha
Start at the official preview page and follow its Download Alpha link to PlayStation’s store. Check the account and regional listing you actually use. The advertised event ends October 25; do not assume an alpha download means permanent access to the finished game.
The preview puts the Armed Forces of Ukraine and People’s Liberation Army into a fight around Gorodok’s railway, according to Offworld’s announcement. The developer’s page still uses “tomorrow” beside Friday, October 16. We are using the explicit October 16–25 dates repeated on the live preview site.
What the Console Announcement Actually Promises
Squad’s official pitch centers on 100-player tactical combat, with infantry, vehicles, transport, and logistics supporting the same operation. That suggests a useful first-session goal: learn how your role helps the group before chasing an individual score.
The console FAQ describes opt-in PlayStation and Xbox crossplay, plus eligible PC community servers using the console ruleset. That is more specific than promising every PC server will simply appear on console. Console mods are not planned for launch.
Keep those longer-term plans separate from what you encounter in the alpha. A test’s available content and behavior should be judged as the test’s, especially when you are choosing what to buy later.
A Separate Free Offer for Steam Players
Existing Steam players have their own reason to check the announcement: Offworld says the Recon Team Pack can be claimed free during the event, before October 25. Follow the Steam link in the developer’s post and confirm the offer on your account.
That pack is separate from access to the PS5 alpha. Before sharing the news with friends, send them the link that matches their platform. PS5 players are looking for the preview; PC owners are looking for the pack. The full console release remains a 2027 release window.
