Returning to Warframe for its journey toward Tau does not mean you need to finish every recent story quest before joining the community event. Digital Extremes' Taubound announcement separates the limited-time operation from the new Tau Prologue, and that distinction is the most useful thing to know before launch.
Epoch Operation: Taubound runs October 15 through November 17. It requires completion of Vor's Prize, with normal Eris access restrictions lifted during the event. The permanent prologue has a different gate: The Hex and The Old Peace.
Which part should returning players prioritize?
The operation is the deadline-sensitive part. Digital Extremes says it will not rerun, and Praghasa's special event dialogue is available during the operation. The prologue remains in the Quest Codex afterward.
Our recommendation is to separate your plans into two sessions rather than treating everything as one enormous catch-up assignment. First, check whether you can join the operation. Then look at your unfinished quests and decide when to tackle the prologue. That keeps the deadline from turning an optional story catch-up into unnecessary homework.

What players actually do during Taubound
In her October 13 Xbox Wire overview, Digital Extremes community director Megan Everett describes collecting Moonflesh in Eris missions to fuel the Sentient mothership Praghasa's journey toward Tau. The resource also trades for event rewards.
Everett's overview lists cosmetic rewards including armor, Honoria, Somachords, Glyphs, Sigils and Syandanas. Before committing to a long farming session, check the in-game exchange and choose the items you actually care about. Compare their displayed costs and fit that goal around the time you have, rather than treating the entire exchange as a completion checklist.
The Tau Prologue is not disappearing with the event

The prologue also arrives October 15. Everett describes a cinematic quest involving The Lotus and the player's customized Vessel, while confirming that its additions are permanent. Players who still need The Hex or The Old Peace can work through those requirements without confusing November 17 with a deadline for the quest itself.
For someone returning mainly to follow the story, that leaves room to enjoy the quests in order. For someone keen to take part in the community operation, the practical priority is different: check event access first and visit Praghasa during the announced window.
