EverQuest Online Adventures | Sony PlayStation 2 | PS2
Immerse yourself in a huge fantasy world populated by thousands of living, breathing characters
If you ever read a fantasy novel or watched a sword and sorcery flick and wondered what it would be like to really cross swords with an Orc Chieftain or exchange fireballs with an evil wizard, then EverQuest Online Adventures is what you have been waiting for.
A gigantic online, virtual world, populated by monsters, maniacs and literally thousands of other players living out their fantasy cyber-lives. It may sound like The Matrix... but with dragons. If you'd like to see how far the rabbit hole goes, you'll need to take up arms and join the world of EverQuest Online Adventures.
EverQuest is the first MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) on PS2, meaning literally thousands of players all play online in the same world at the same time. After setting up your account and subscription (a monthly fee is required to keep the world turning), you create your hero. You can choose from nine races including Dwarves, Elves and Trolls; 14 professions (or classes) such as warrior, wizard, rogue, bard or monk are also available. With all that chosen, you can customize your hero's appearance to make them truly unique in the land of Norrath, and finally give them an evocative name. ('Bilbo' and 'Conan' are probably taken, we warn you.)
With your hero born into the world of Norrath, it's up to you to guide them. You can follow quests issued to you by friendly NPCs (computer controlled Non-Player Characters) or just head out into the wilderness to challenge the various beings, beasts and monsters that populate the continent of Tunaria. Play solo if you wish, but EverQuest Online Adventures really shines when you enlist fellow adventurers, and form strong multi-classed parties to better face the adventures ahead. It's a heck of a lot more fun to raid an orc camp when you've got your buddies with you, believe us.
Like real life, Norrath is a persistent world - meaning that even when you're not wandering around in it, the world keeps turning and events continue. So remember to set your alarms - if your party is off to slay the dragon at 6pm and you turn up at 7, it could all be over bar the shouting (and dousing the burning dwarf). Alternatively if you hold an in-game auction to sell a magic shield at 8, any interested parties better be there or lose out.
Because of the thousands of players involved, who all have their own goals and interests, EverQuest Online Adventures is almost as much driven by players as it is scripted. Luckily, communicating with other players is easy, thanks to the in-game virtual keyboard, support for USB keyboards and built-in Buddy List and Mail features that let you keep tabs on your adventuring partners.
Power, wealth and notoriety wait for you in EverQuest Online Adventures - what you do with them depends on your good (or evil) nature. The living world of Norrath is waiting for you. How you choose to live in that world is completely up to you.
