For a group split between storefronts or consoles, make compatibility the first question and availability the second. A game being included in one subscription is useful only after everyone knows how they will join the same session.

Sony's subscription support guide distinguishes Monthly Games from the catalogs. Extra includes the Game Catalog, while Premium also provides the Classics Catalog. Essential alone does not unlock this lineup.
Start with the game you actually plan to play. Confirm its version and arrival date on your account's regional store, then check the membership needed for access. Upgrading solely because a monthly list looks large makes less sense than comparing the cost with a specific game you have time to play.
The staggered rollout also gives you a reason not to rush through an existing game just to meet an assumed catalog-wide launch day. Pick one title, confirm its date and build a manageable queue around that choice.
