The Alternative Edition (or Gold Edition) of Resident Evil 5, released exactly one year after the original version, comes with the full game and a plethora of extras included.
Save game data from the original is compatible with this version so players can use it to unlock new costumes and such.
Two new chapters are added. "Lost in Nightmares" follows Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as they enter one of Umbrella Corporation co-founder's estates, going back to the atmosphere of the original Resident Evil while keeping the gameplay of Resident Evil 5. "Desperate Escape" focuses on what happened to Jill after the fight with Chris and Sheva in the original Resident Evil 5.
Four new costumes are added: the exoskeleton and warrior costumes for Chris, and the office lady and folklore costumes for Sheva. Other additional content includes "The Mercenaries Reunion" mode where you try to defeat as many enemies as possible within a time limit, a "Versus" online mode, and ten new unlockable figures for a collection.
