Ratatan: Pick the Co-op Setup Before the Deluxe Edition

Ratatan's launch-week listings separate online co-op, Digital Deluxe extras and regional dates. Here is what Nintendo and Xbox buyers should verify.

Four-player Ratatan does not necessarily mean four friends sharing one television. Nintendo's current U.S. Digital Deluxe listing specifies one player on a single system and one to four online. That is the first detail to settle before comparing the extras in a more expensive edition.

This is a launch-week buying preview, not a review. Ratatan combines rhythm commands with side-scrolling action: players issue orders to their Cobun followers while moving their own Ratatan around the battlefield. The publisher describes it as a rhythm roguelike. The attraction is coordinating decisions and musical timing, rather than simply buying a soundtrack with a game attached.

Build the session around online co-op

For a Switch 2 group, start with Nintendo's player-count listing rather than the broad phrase “four-player co-op.” The same page lists Nintendo Switch Online support. Nintendo's UK product page explicitly says a paid membership is required for online play. Handheld, tabletop and TV modes describe ways to use the console; they do not turn the single-system player count into four.

Microsoft's current Xbox Series X|S listing also advertises online co-op and states that online multiplayer on console requires Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately. That requirement is not a statement that Ratatan itself is included with Game Pass.

Our local-multiplayer feature explains why these distinctions deserve attention. A game can support friends without supporting the particular gathering you had planned. Settle that question before everyone buys a copy.

The Deluxe edition is a bundle of named extras

Nintendo's U.S. Digital Deluxe page lists the full game plus three sets: Equipment & Accessories, Super Cobun and Supplies. It also notes that some items can be obtained by progressing through the game. The purchase is therefore best judged by those named contents, not by assuming that “Deluxe” describes a different campaign.

The publisher's September 15 Japanese announcement identifies the Standard edition as the main game and describes the Deluxe additions separately. Do not confuse a digital bundle with guaranteed physical inserts or unused redemption codes in a boxed copy. This article does not certify the contents of every regional physical release.

The displayed date needs a platform and region

As checked October 14, Nintendo's U.S. Digital Deluxe page and Microsoft's U.S. Ratatan page display October 14, 2026. GSE's Japanese June 25 delay notice and the body of its September announcement use October 15. Those are the respective published dates, not proof of one universal unlock hour or delivery day.

Updated October 14, 2026: Steam now lists October 14, 2026 as Ratatan's release date and September 18, 2025 separately as its Early Access release date. This corrects the earlier statement that the PC version was still in Early Access. Check the exact platform and regional store entry when coordinating a group; a release date alone does not establish a shared unlock hour.

For the musical-strategy lineage, revisit our Patapon spotlight. Here, the immediate choice is less romantic: confirm the multiplayer setup, then decide whether the listed bonus items are worth choosing over the Standard edition.
