Army Men: Air Combat
Army Men: Air Combat turns a backyard into a battlefield, with Captain William Blade flying support for the Green Army against General Plastro’s Tan forces. Toy helicopters skim over picnic areas, playgrounds and beaches while everyday objects become obstacles or objectives. Enemy aircraft and ground troops share the battlefield with oversized insects and remote-controlled cars, giving the military action the unruly scale of a childhood toy war.
Missions combine destroying targets with rescues, escort duty and deliveries. You steer around incoming fire, strafe to line up attacks and switch between machine guns and secondary weapons while watching ammunition and armor. The overhead map helps you navigate the area, but completing the briefing’s objectives matters as much as clearing enemies. Your winch is central to the action: lifting a person or carrying an object can turn a straightforward firefight into a careful pickup and transport run.
The helicopter lineup changes how you approach each assignment. The nimble Huey favors evasion, while the sturdier Chinook trades agility for carrying power. The Super Stallion and Apache offer stronger combinations of speed, armor and weapons as more aircraft become available. Choosing a co-pilot before a mission also affects your capabilities, adding another decision to the preparation between sorties.
You can tackle the campaign alone or share it with a second player in cooperative play. The separate Officers Club competitions put local rivals into Flag-Nab-It, Food Fight, Air Rescue and Bug Hunt, mixing shooting with collecting, transporting and rescuing. Each participant needs a Nintendo 64 controller. A Controller Pak is needed to store saved progress; mission passwords provide another way to resume at later stages. The result is an objective-driven helicopter game that balances frantic toy combat with the precision of getting people and supplies safely across hostile territory.
