Disney•Pixar Finding Nemo | Sony PlayStation 2 | PS2
Big fun with small fry.
Go to places that Jacques Cousteau only dreamed of in this underwater adventure based on the Disney/Pixar movie set in the deep blue sea.
Under the Sea
When the game begins, you are introduced to an inquisitive young fish named Nemo who is headed to his first day of school. When Nemo turns up missing, his overly cautious father, Marlin joins with an optimistic fish named Dory to scour the Great Barrier Reef to find him.
As you explore 15 different levels you will control the three main characters; Nemo, Marlin and Dory. The responsive controls will make you feel as if you were piloting a sleek submarine. As you glide through the water you can press the A Button for a burst of speed. If you race to the surface, you can even leap out of the water for short distances.
Along the way you will interact with characters from the movie including Bruce, Crush and the Tank Gang. Cut-scenes between levels showcase amazing animation from the movie and keep the story rolling.
Fins of Fury
Nemo may be a small fish in a big ocean, but he is not utterly defenseless. Small enemies can be trapped in air bubbles, then popped by darting into them. Perhaps his greatest asset is maneuverability, as he can swim circles around the crabs, puffer fish, and electric eels.
Secondary objectives for each level will provide an extra challenge. Swim through all the glowing rings, or collect all the shells to earn a reward. You can also collect life-giving krill that follow you until you get hit by an enemy.
Graphics and Sound
Although you are basically on a set path for most of the game, you will enjoy a sense of freedom thanks to a dynamic camera. Often, your view will shift to give you the best view of the action as you swim from small caves to wide-open currents.
A blue hue washes over most of this underwater adventure, but the environments are surprisingly varied. From the dark depths of the ocean to glowing colonies of jellyfish, there is always something new to ogle.
The animation for the sea life is quite convincing. Each of the characters twists and turns in a fishy pirouette as they swim through the water. A combination of detailed animation and vibrant surroundings makes the game look as though you are peering into a living underwater world.
