About the Collection
DOOM: Slayers Collection brings four generations of id Software’s first-person-shooter series to PlayStation 4: DOOM (1993), DOOM II, DOOM 3, and DOOM (2016). The set moves from fast, maze-like classic levels to survival-horror tension and then into the modern reboot’s aggressive arena combat, giving each game its own pace and identity instead of treating the package as one continuous campaign.
This North American physical edition uses the PS4 disc for DOOM (2016). The original package supplied DOOM, DOOM II, and DOOM 3 through a redemption key, so those three downloads are not guaranteed with a pre-owned copy. An internet connection and a valid PlayStation account are required to redeem and download any still-valid code.
Four Different Trips Through Hell
- DOOM (1993): Explore compact, secret-filled military bases and infernal strongholds while managing ammunition, armor, keys, and an escalating arsenal.
- DOOM II: Carry the classic formula to demon-occupied Earth with larger encounters, additional enemies, and the series-defining Super Shotgun.
- DOOM 3: Enter a darker reimagining of the Mars outbreak, where tight corridors, limited visibility, audio cues, and slower suspense place more weight on survival-horror atmosphere.
- DOOM (2016): Push constantly forward through Mars and Hell with fast movement, heavy weapons, brutal Glory Kills, and combat arenas built around quick target and weapon switching.
Combat, Exploration, and Progression
The 2016 campaign rewards offense. Staggered demons can be finished with Glory Kills for health, while chainsaw executions turn fuel into emergency ammunition. Weapon mods add alternate firing behavior, and further upgrades let you specialize those tools for different ranges and enemy combinations. Praetor Suit improvements, Argent cells, and equippable runes expand mobility, survivability, resource capacity, and combat efficiency.
Its arenas connect through wider levels with vertical routes, hidden rooms, collectibles, optional challenges, and codex entries. Exploration feeds progression, but the fighting stays immediate: movement, positioning, crowd control, and knowing when to switch weapons matter more than waiting behind cover.
Campaign, Multiplayer, and SnapMap
DOOM (2016) includes a one-player campaign plus competitive online modes and SnapMap, a creation tool for building and sharing custom encounters. PlayStation lists support for up to 12 online players with PlayStation Plus. Online play is optional, but it requires a PlayStation Network account and current service access. Bethesda currently documents a PlayStation issue affecting the ability to join lobbies or create new SnapMaps, so SnapMap availability should not be assumed.
Atmosphere and Presentation
Across the collection, industrial science-fiction spaces, demonic architecture, heavy sound design, and increasingly elaborate enemy designs show how the series changed over time. The classics emphasize speed and readable layouts, DOOM 3 uses darkness and isolation, and the 2016 game pairs pounding music with fluid animation and highly physical combat feedback.
