Extreme-G: XG2 sends armed futuristic motorcycles onto elevated tracks built for extreme speed. Racing is only half of the contest: every bike carries shields, weapons and limited nitro boosts, so a strong line through a corner matters as much as knowing when to attack. Weapon pickups can disrupt opponents ahead or behind, while depleted shields leave a rider vulnerable to elimination. Jumps, tunnels and abrupt elevation changes keep each course visually dramatic and mechanically demanding.
Racing Systems
The bikes vary in speed, armor, acceleration and handling, encouraging players to choose a machine that fits their approach. Nitro creates short bursts of acceleration, but using it at the wrong moment can make a difficult bend even harder. Shields absorb damage from rival fire, and the shared emphasis on velocity and combat means a lead can disappear quickly. Learning the track layout, conserving defensive energy and selecting useful weapons are central to consistent finishes.
Modes and Multiplayer
Cup Challenge provides the main championship progression across increasingly difficult events. Head-to-Head supports direct racing, while Battle Mode shifts attention toward destroying rivals in combat-focused arenas. An Arcade-style mode uses the weapon system against targets rather than a conventional race field. Local multiplayer supports as many as four players, making the game one of the Nintendo 64’s more ambitious split-screen futuristic racers.
This North American cartridge was developed by Probe Entertainment and published by Acclaim. It expands the original Extreme-G formula with a larger vehicle roster, more elaborate tracks and a broader range of competitive formats, delivering a fast arcade racer where route knowledge and controlled aggression are equally important.
