LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures sends players through 18 levels based on the original Indiana Jones film trilogy, featuring LEGO characters adapted from the cinematic releases. Combat takes advantage of hidden weapons scattered across stages, allowing you to strike foes at close-range with swords and umbrellas or target adversaries at far-range using rifles and pistols. Exploration also emphasizes digging up secrets, with buried treasure unearthed by characters equipped with a spade.

Exploring Barnett College Hub and Collectibles

Between missions, Barnett College serves as your central hub. It provides access to individual rooms for each of the three films, as well as Indiana Jones' Office, where you can buy characters, extras, and hints. The hub also houses the Game Room, challenging players to solve puzzles and complete minigames to earn gold bricks, alongside the Artifact room, where you can view collected artifacts at any time after discovering the 10 artifacts required from each level. Instead of the console versions' Mail Room, extras in the pause menu are unlocked by collecting Red Bricks. Acquiring Stud Multipliers via Red Bricks in specific stages lets you combine multipliers together to substantially boost your total stud earnings.

Touch, Mic Controls, and Wireless Co-Op

The handheld experience incorporates hardware-specific inputs across action and exploration. Multiple minigames utilize the Nintendo DS stylus, including LEGO Logo activities where you rotate and fit pieces into their correct slots against the clock. In addition, the system's in-built microphone comes into play during field travel, requiring players to blow out torches to reveal hidden treasures and inflate rafts to cross water barriers. For cooperative play, DS Multi-Card Play enables two players to link handhelds and complete the levels together.
