Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA
Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA builds its arcade racing around fast cars, large jumps, and courses that invite you to look beyond the obvious road. American city and island settings provide routes through Seattle, Las Vegas, New York, Hawaii, and Alcatraz. A shortcut can save time, but reaching it cleanly and landing with the car under control are part of the challenge.
One Race lets you choose a car and track for an individual event. Circuit mode strings races into a longer points competition, using a sequence of 28 events to decide the championship. Two players can also take part in the Circuit, racing each event together while pursuing their own results. Practice removes the other cars and provides time to inspect a route, test jumps, and work out which turns need a more careful approach.
The vehicle selection and setup offer room to experiment. You can change the car's appearance and adjust settings before driving, then compare how it feels on the road. Courses combine recognizable landmarks with exaggerated racing layouts, so knowing where a road leads does not necessarily reveal the quickest way through it. Hidden keys and other collectibles provide reasons to investigate routes that a normal race might rush past.
Game options let you change the character of the competition. Difficulty affects computer opponents, handicap settings can help trailing cars, and wind changes the challenge of landing after a jump. The Death setting adds a stricter consequence to a crash: with it enabled, wrecking the car ends the race. Leaving it off allows a replacement car and a chance to continue.
Local racing supports one or two players, with split-screen competition when both take part. A Nintendo 64 Controller Pak stores created-player results and Circuit progress; Circuit passcodes provide another way to resume the championship. Rumble Pak support is optional. The game's appeal comes from learning a course as a playground for speed and exploration, then turning that knowledge into a cleaner, quicker race.
