Skylanders: SuperChargers is a single-player and multiplayer action game with vehicular combat and platforming elements. The story follows the Skylanders as they fight against Kaos, who has unleashed the Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction to take control of Skylands. To oppose him, the SuperChargers are assembled, a group of heroes with special vehicles designed to travel across land, sea, and sky. The player assumes the role of the Portal Master who summons Skylanders into the world, guiding them through battles, puzzles, and racing missions while attempting to stop Kaos’ destructive plans.
Gameplay continues the series’ mix of action-platforming and hack-and-slash combat, where each Skylander figure represents a character that can be placed on the Portal of Power to enter the game. Characters can attack with melee and ranged abilities, use elemental powers, and chain combos to defeat enemies. Progression allows Skylanders to level up, earn coins, and unlock upgrades for health, damage, and special skills.
A central new feature of this installment is the addition of vehicles. Each one corresponds to a unique toy figure, and players can summon cars, boats, or aircraft to explore new types of levels. Vehicle gameplay combines racing mechanics with combat, as players shoot, ram, or evade enemies while navigating tracks, open waters, and aerial zones. Vehicles can be upgraded with new weapons and armor, and pairing the correct SuperCharger hero with their signature vehicle unlocks enhanced performance and abilities.
The campaign is structured around story-based missions, boss battles, and exploration of diverse Skylands regions. Levels often combine character-based combat with vehicle sequences, requiring the player to alternate between foot battles and driving segments.
Additional systems include cooperative multiplayer where a second player can join locally to control another Skylander or ride along in vehicle segments. Online functionality adds competitive racing, allowing players to pit their vehicles against others in structured races. The game also retains mini-games and light puzzle-solving, such as unlocking chests or navigating elemental gates.
