Spider-Man Faces a Mechanical Threat
Spider-Man 3: Invasion of the Spider-Slayers puts the web-slinger up against mechanical enemies built to destroy him. Razor-winged, bolt-firing Spider-Slayers join a threat that also brings Electro and Scorpion into the fight. Spider-Sense and new combat moves give Spider-Man tools for meeting that danger.
The story follows Spider-Man from street encounters with muggers and skater punks to Electro's bank robbery and the machines connected to Alistair Smythe. Short scenes between stages link the city patrol to the search for the attacker.
Swinging, Climbing and Fighting
Traversal uses Spider-Man's ability to swing, climb walls and cling to ceilings. A route can take him along a street or up a tower, so movement is more than walking into the next enemy. These abilities connect the familiar wall-crawler to the side-view action on the Game Boy.
Combat combines close-range kicks with web-slinging actions. Crouching and kicking provide another approach during encounters. Moving to a useful position and choosing an attack forms the immediate loop as Spider-Man meets street criminals, robots and larger threats.
Short Stages and Changing Encounters
The stages use time limits, with some passages scrolling automatically and others centered on a boss encounter. That changes the task from moving through a route to concentrating on a particular opponent. Completing the current objective carries Spider-Man onward through the single-player sequence.
Score screens appear between levels, alongside an unusual street detail: a defeated skater's board can be ridden for points. Those moments sit within the larger progression from everyday trouble to the Spider-Slayers, adding a scoring interaction to the pursuit without changing the game's central action format.
Comic Characters on the Handheld Screen
The monochrome screen places Spider-Man against city buildings, rooftop structures and mechanical foes, with score, energy and time displays beneath the action. Electro and Scorpion supply recognizable comic-book opponents, while the on-screen Spider-Sense feature belongs to this Game Boy release's presentation of the hero.
The Original Game Boy Release
This cartridge was made for the original Game Boy system. Swinging, side-view combat and city scenes carry its comic-book pursuit from street criminals toward the mechanical Spider-Slayers. The handheld setting keeps Spider-Man's movements and the opponents in front of him at the center of the screen.
