The Incredibles leap from the big screen to the Nintendo GameCube and are ready for action.

Features * Play as characters from the film * Based on movie storyline * More than 19 levels * Fight, race and stealth action

Mr. and Mrs. Incredible used to save the world, no questions asked. However, when they were hit with a series of lawsuits, they hung up their supersuits and tried to adapt to normal life. But a top-secret assignment pulls them back into duty to stop an evil genius.

You play as most of the Incredibles in a story firmly based on the movie. Expect some pretty incredible super-powers from most of the heroes. Mrs. Incredible can stretch her limbs to unthinkable lengths, which, you would think, helps her at competitions of impersonating rubber bands. The Incredibles' son Dash kicks it into high gear to beat the bus to school. As he does so, the environment gets caught in a heat warp (a cool effect).

Mr. Incredible may lack creativity when it comes to his super power, but he amply makes up for it with coolness. He punches things really hard. Whoo hoo! It's a tough job being less than original, but somebody has to do it. Might as well be him.

And what's not to love about Frozone? Not only can he create ice out of thin air, he's voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, making this ice king even cooler. Jackson serves as the game's energetic tutor in the nonstop opening sequence, but unfortunately, you can't play as him.

The game is highly linear. Most of the action consists of beating up a seemingly endless swarm of clueless henchmen while finessing burning buildings, electrified grids and gigantic gaps. Puzzle elements are absent and you can only play a level as one of the Incredibles, which cuts down on replayability.

Graphically the game is solid, sacrificing detailed textures and special effects for a rapid-fire frame-rate. The amped-up score is a lot of fun and the voice actors do right by the surprisingly droll lines.

Characters can grab Incredibles icons to unlock special bonus features, mostly concept art. Movie clips introduce the levels.

Bottom Line

The Incredibles brings a lot of energy and wit to the action-platformer genre. This cheerful disk should wow anyone who has seen the movie.
