About the Game
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker begins on Outset Island, where Link’s quiet life ends when a giant bird carries away his sister Aryll. He joins the pirate captain Tetra to reach the Forsaken Fortress, then sets sail across the Great Sea with the talking King of Red Lions. The rescue mission gradually becomes a wider struggle involving the lost kingdom beneath the waves, the Triforce and Ganondorf.
Sailing, Dungeons & Combat
The Wind Waker baton conducts melodies that change the wind, solve puzzles and unlock new routes. Sailing connects a grid of islands containing towns, caves, treasure charts, enemy platforms and optional side quests. On land, dungeons combine environmental puzzles with sword combat and tools such as the boomerang, grappling hook, bombs and bow. Timed parries can turn an enemy’s attack against it, while dropped weapons can be used temporarily. The cel-shaded art style is also functional: expressive character animation and Link’s gaze help draw attention to threats and interactive objects.
Original GameCube Features
The North American GameCube release is a one-player action-adventure that remains fully playable offline. An optional second participant can assist through the Tingle Tuner, but that feature requires a Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube–Game Boy Advance cable. Neither accessory is required for the main adventure. This listing is the original 2003 GameCube edition and does not include the Wii U remaster’s Swift Sail, Hero Mode or HD changes. Developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo, it released in North America on March 24, 2003 and is rated E for Everyone. Compatible equipment can use progressive-scan output and Dolby Pro Logic II audio.
