About the Game
Wii Party U is a local party-game collection designed around the different ways the Wii U GamePad and Wii Remotes can share a room. Its estimated 80 minigames range from quick reflex and timing challenges to board-game-style contests, making it easy to move between short rounds and longer group sessions.
Three Ways to Play
TV Party supports one to four players and places board games and minigames on the television. House Party is built for two to four players, using the GamePad, Wii Remotes and the physical room as parts of the activity. GamePad Party supports one or two players entirely on the GamePad screen, including tabletop-style games that can be played away from the television. A minigame collection and suggestion system make it possible to choose by group size and the type of activity players want.
Controllers & Current Features
The required controller setup changes by mode. Some games support up to four Wii Remotes plus the single Wii U GamePad, while GamePad Party needs only the GamePad. A sensor bar is required when using Wii Remotes, and a Wii Remote Plus can substitute for a standard Wii Remote. The original software also allowed players to view ratings and Miiverse posts online. Nintendo ended Wii U online communication on April 8, 2024, so those community functions are no longer officially available; the core local party modes remain playable offline. Developed by NDCube and published by Nintendo, the North American release arrived on October 25, 2013 and is rated E for Everyone.
