A Continuing WWE Career
WWE Day of Reckoning 2 continues the first game’s storyline with a created wrestler who already belongs in the main event. Rivalries, deception and a relationship with Stacy Keibler shape the campaign.
Some story decisions let you choose an opponent or championship to pursue. Matches still have to be won to advance, and these choices provide variation without radically changing the campaign’s main storyline.
Strikes, Grapples & Reversals
Weak and strong strikes and grapples remain the foundation, alongside Irish whips, taunts and attacks from the top rope. Tapping or holding the attack buttons selects different strengths. Timed reversals use the R trigger against strikes and L against grapples. Momentum Shift and the weight-balancing system return from the first game, carrying its comeback and lifting mechanics into the sequel.
Stamina & Submission Choices
The new stamina system tracks the exertion behind your actions. Running, climbing, repeated moves and lifting heavy weapons can leave a wrestler out of breath, and different superstars have different stamina levels. Pacing your offense becomes another part of the match instead of relying on a continuous stream of attacks.
Submission holds introduce a choice between damage, draining the opponent, recovering your own stamina or building momentum. You select a tactic with the C-Stick, while the opponent tries to predict the choice. A correct guess can reverse the hold, turning a submission attempt into a contest of intent as well as positioning.
Create-A-Superstar & Progression
Create-A-Superstar offers wrestler templates, masks, logos, clothing and a moveset to shape your character, plus an entrance editor. You can rebuild an earlier creation, but the game does not import wrestlers from the original Day of Reckoning.
Additional arena and pay-per-view settings are earned through Story Mode or bought in the WWE Shop, giving campaign progress another purpose alongside advancing the storyline.
Exhibitions, Legends & Learning
Exhibitions cover Triple Threat and Fatal 4-Way encounters, steel cages, Hell in a Cell and matches built around tables, ladders and chairs. The roster brings contemporary WWE wrestlers and Divas together with legends including Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Mankind, Bret Hart and The Rock.
Last Man Standing joins the exhibition options. The Tutorial covers basic and advanced controls, and assisted defense lets newcomers block strike or grapple attempts without needing the precise timing of a reversal.
Presentation & Match Atmosphere
Rick Powers’ original GameCube review highlighted the more detailed wrestler faces and creation tools while noting compression and occasional stuttering in entrance videos. He also criticized the computer opponents. The campaign tells its story through on-screen dialogue rather than recorded conversations, as Alex Navarro noted in his contemporary review.
Local Players & Saving
The North American GameCube edition supports 1–4 local players and uses 34 blocks on a GameCube Memory Card for saving. Up to four wrestlers appear simultaneously, so larger match formats still work within that in-ring limit.
