About the Game
ZooCube for Nintendo GameCube turns an animal-rescue premise into a fast matching puzzle. A machine called the ZooCube restores the creatures by bringing matching pieces together. Your playfield is the cube itself, suspended in the middle of the screen, with approaching pieces aimed at its six faces. Instead of waiting for everything to fall down one board, you keep track of several directions and rotate the cube to decide where the next arrival belongs.
Rotation, Matching & Stack Management
A matching pair on the same face clears away and adds to your score. Unmatched pieces remain attached, creating stacks that become a problem if allowed to grow too high. Successful play means keeping space available while also retaining pieces that will be useful when their partners arrive. Rotating to catch one match may expose a different face to another approaching piece, so the decisions come in a continuing sequence.
You can rearrange pieces already attached to a face, changing which one is ready to meet the next arrival. A lane can also be locked to a face while you turn attention elsewhere. These controls give you more options than simply accepting each stack as it lands. As additional shapes arrive and their speeds vary, recognizing the pieces, managing the existing piles and rotating accurately become equally important.
Power-ups add ways to recover space or improve a score. Some clear pieces or award points; others can interfere with an opponent by increasing incoming pressure or making rotation more difficult. They give multiplayer another layer beyond making matches quickly. Clearing a crowded face at the right moment can rescue a run, but you still need to recognize the next pair and keep the remaining sides under control.
Classic, Blind & Knockout Challenges
The main progression takes the animal rescue across different environments, unlocking further stages as you clear enough matches. Later play introduces more piece varieties, adding recognition work to the faster movement. You can return to an unlocked stage after losing, and the score gives each attempt another target.
Blind changes the task by removing the color information from pieces once they attach to the cube, making their shapes more important. Knockout turns clearing the existing pieces with a limited supply of incoming matches into the objective. Knockout Blind combines those restrictions. The variations preserve the central rotation-and-pairing idea while changing the information or resources available to complete a puzzle.
Local Multiplayer & Presentation
The GameCube release supports up to four players simultaneously in local play. Competitive sessions let players test their matching speed against one another, and cooperative play is also available. The cube and animal pieces remain the focus, with different background settings, animated creatures, sound cues and video sequences supporting the rescue theme. The North American packaging identifies seven environments and twelve game modes across the package.
Play uses GameCube controllers, with a controller for each person joining simultaneous multiplayer. A memory card is needed for saving. Its short puzzle attempts, score pursuit and mode variations make it suited to returning to the same system repeatedly: each incoming sequence asks you to recognize, turn, rearrange and match again.
