The highlight reel for Windjammers 2 makes every flying disc look like a personal insult delivered at highway speed. Trying to copy everything at once is a fine way to spend a match wondering which button you just pressed. Start with one move you can recognize, perform and deliberately use again.

The game has tools for that job. Dotemu's October 11, 2023 developer update added Lessons and Practice. Lessons teaches the moves; Practice lets you work against the CPU with adjustable settings. This guide uses those documented tools to build a short learning session, rather than asking you to memorize a tournament's worth of tricks before your first useful return.

Use Lessons to settle the input question

According to Dotemu, Lessons covers basic actions such as lobs, curved shots, slapshots and drop shots, along with advanced techniques including jumps and Super Shots. Open the lesson for the action you want to learn and follow the prompts shown by your installed game.

For your first pass, pick one basic action. Read the prompt, perform it, then try again deliberately. Ask whether you understand the input sequence or merely got the right-looking result while pressing several things. Those are different starting points for the next rally.

Keep the game's own button display in view. Follow the prompts for your own controller rather than copying a button label from a screenshot. Your lesson should answer what to press before you begin worrying about when to use it.

Take one question into Practice

Dotemu describes Practice as play against the CPU with options including forced service and a range of difficulty levels. Use those settings to make a manageable exercise. You do not need the hardest opponent available to discover that an input has not become reliable yet.

Here is Zypher's suggested exercise, not an in-game challenge or achievement:

  1. Choose one shot you have just studied in Lessons.
  2. Keep the same character and court for a short set of attempts.
  3. Try the action five times, noticing where each attempt breaks down.
  4. Return to the lesson if you cannot identify the intended input.

Five is simply a small number that keeps the exercise focused. The useful result is an observation: you performed the move consistently, missed the input, or executed it but chose a poor moment. Each result gives you a different thing to work on. “The computer is cheating” is less specific, even when delivered with impressive conviction.

Separate execution from choosing the moment

Once the action is recognizable, watch the situation around it. Where was your character? Where was the opponent? What happened immediately after the throw? A successful input does not automatically make the decision useful.

Try describing a lost exchange without using the word “bad.” Were you late to the disc, unsure which move you attempted, or watching your own effect instead of the return? This is an observation exercise, not a claim that every lost point has the same cause.

Keep a brief note after the session. One sentence about the repeated problem is enough. It gives the next visit to Lessons a purpose and stops Practice from becoming another place to play matches without knowing what you meant to improve.

Change characters after you have a comparison

The official character descriptions identify Anna Szalinski as slow and powerful, while Jamma GX03 combines balanced power with speed. Those differences give you a reason to compare characters after establishing a familiar exercise.

Repeat that exercise with a different athlete while keeping the other choices steady. Notice which movements feel easier to manage and which situations make you reconsider your position. You are looking for a useful comparison, not proving that one character is universally best.

Make the next real match a small test

Dotemu's current game information lists solo Arcade play as well as local and online multiplayer. Choose the setting you want to play, then carry one question from practice into it. Can you recognize a situation where the move belongs? Can you stay aware of the return after using it?

The match score still matters, but it need not be your only note. A useful improvement can be noticing the opportunity before you have the execution to finish it. Bring that specific problem back to the training tools instead of restarting your entire plan after every defeat.
