Aero Gauge
AeroGauge is a futuristic racing game built around jet-powered Aeromachines that can climb, descend, drift, and bank through fully three-dimensional courses. Instead of staying fixed to the road, you manage altitude as well as steering while threading through tunnels, sweeping around sharp corners, and searching for faster lines across ocean, canyon, mountain, and city environments. Each machine has its own balance of speed, acceleration, handling, shield strength, and stability, so the quickest choice is not always the easiest to control.
Single Match begins with a qualifying run that sets your starting position before the main race. Grand Prix links races into a points-based championship: finishing positions award points, and you must meet the requirement for each round to continue. Time Attack strips away the field so you can chase lap and course records, while local VS play supports two players on one Nintendo 64. The original cartridge has no online multiplayer.
Five Aeromachines and four courses are available at first, with additional machines and tracks earned through progress. Three difficulty settings—Novice, Intermediate, and Expert—raise maximum speed and change how much damage your machine can withstand. Optional control configurations let you move acceleration, braking, and drift among the face and Z buttons, and the vertical controls can be set to Normal or Reverse.
Turbo techniques reward timing rather than a simple boost button. A clean launch can produce a turbo start, while race boosts require a hard turn, drift input, and a quick return to acceleration; pushing too aggressively raises vehicle temperature. Records and unlocks are stored on the Game Pak. A Controller Pak is optional and is used only if you want to save Time Attack ghost data beyond the current session.
With its altitude control, demanding cornering, qualifying laps, unlockable machines, and two-player local racing, AeroGauge offers a distinctly technical take on Nintendo 64 arcade racing.
