A first-person hunt built around predator encounters
Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 follows Jacob Marshall through a story that moves between a fatal family hunting trip and a later search for his brother in Africa. Rather than treating every animal as a distant target, the campaign repeatedly places Jacob in close encounters with wolves, bears, lions, leopards and other hostile predators. The result plays as an action-focused hunting shooter with survival pressure, scripted attacks and a strong emphasis on reacting before an animal reaches the player.
Track, aim and respond under pressure
Story Mode lets the player move through outdoor environments from a first-person viewpoint while aiming with the Wii pointer. Hunts include tracking wounded animals, reading infrared-like trails, switching between firearms and using tools such as zoom, range finding and Hunter Sense. Well-placed shots to vital areas earn additional credit, while slow-motion sequences create brief opportunities to stop a charging predator. Checkpoints restore momentum between demanding encounters.
Three distinct ways to play
Story Mode carries the narrative and free-moving hunts. Shooting Gallery changes to an on-rails format with branching route choices, score thresholds and automatic movement, letting the player concentrate on aiming, weapon changes and rapid target selection. Maneater is a wave-based arena mode with objectives that can ask players to survive, protect a character or complete a task before the round ends. Maneater can be played alone or with a local partner, while the exact Wii release records support for up to four offline players across its local modes.
Controls for Wii
The Wii version supports a Wii Remote and Nunchuk as well as compatible gun-shell arrangements such as the Wii Zapper. Movement uses the Nunchuk while the pointer controls the view and reticle; aiming down sights, holding breath, reloading and interacting are assigned to buttons or motions. Because control configurations differ between the freely moving campaign and the on-rails galleries, players should select the setup that suits the mode rather than assume a peripheral is required.
Presentation and replay structure
The story alternates wilderness travel, predator ambushes and large action sequences. Gallery routes and score gates encourage repeat runs, while Maneater's changing objectives give its rounds a different rhythm from ordinary target shooting. Clear HUD elements communicate ammunition, health, score, direction and hunt information without turning the experience into a simulation of equipment ownership.
Release and current support
