Madagascar
About the Game
Madagascar adapts the DreamWorks film as a character-switching platform adventure. Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria leave the Central Park Zoo and eventually reach the island, with stages following their escape, journey and encounters with the lemurs. The tone stays playful, using short dialogue scenes, animal abilities and varied objectives rather than building every level around the same kind of platforming.
Character Abilities & Objectives
Each animal handles differently. Alex uses claws, a roar and double jumps; Marty relies on speed, kicks and long jumps; Gloria charges through obstacles and swims; and Melman uses his height and a spinning helicopter-style move to cross gaps. Some stages focus on stealth or collecting, while others shift to chase sequences, races, escort tasks or target-based challenges. Progress unlocks abilities and opens routes that were unavailable earlier in a level. Coins and hidden bonus items reward exploration beyond the direct objective.
Single-Player Story & Local Extras
The main adventure is designed for one player, with the game switching the active character to match each stage. The North American GameCube release also supports up to two players locally in its separate minigame content; no online service is required. Its structure is mission-based rather than an open-world recreation of the movie, and every playable animal has a different movement toolkit. Toys for Bob developed the game and Activision published the North American GameCube version on May 24, 2005. The ESRB rates this console release E10+ for Everyone 10+ with Cartoon Violence and Crude Humor. Compatible audio equipment can use Dolby Pro Logic II.
