About the Game
NBA Live 2004 puts you in charge of NBA action on Nintendo GameCube, from calling a quick play to developing a team in Dynasty. Its central feature is expanded Freestyle Control: individual ball handling, shooting, and movement work alongside decisions about the rest of the team. The result gives you several ways to create an opening instead of relying on a single drive to the basket.
Freestyle Moves & Team Play
Freestyle Control connects movement with a selection of signature moves, shooting actions, and adjustments in the air. You can use it to change direction, work into the lane, or alter an attempt as defenders close in. Timing the action around the opposition is as important as selecting the move; a highlight play still has to fit the possession.
Off Ball Play lets you direct a player who is not carrying the ball. That adds another way to influence a possession by setting up the receiving player and the pass, rather than handling everything through the current ball carrier. Quick Plays let you call an offensive set with a single button, connecting individual control to the team formation.
Defense receives its own expanded options, while ten-player motion capture supports the movement of a complete lineup. Players battle for space around the basket and react within a team possession. The game combines those interactions with the faster individual actions of its Freestyle system, so passing, positioning, and shot choice remain part of the same sequence.
Building a Dynasty
Dynasty moves the focus from an isolated matchup to the development of your NBA team. Recruit free agents, bring in college prospects, and shape the squad as seasons progress. These personnel decisions sit alongside the games themselves, letting you build toward a stronger roster over time.
The distinction is practical: a quick game lets you concentrate on the action immediately, while Dynasty gives the results and roster decisions a longer context. Developing the team means considering the players you will use in future games as well as the lineup on the court today.
EA SPORTS Bio & Presentation
EA SPORTS Bio records play and achievements across participating EA SPORTS titles on a memory card and unlocks in-game rewards. NBA Live 2004 is one of those supported games, with rewards including classic teams, jerseys, shoes, and NBA Store points. Playing and completing achievements develops that saved profile alongside your basketball progress.
Marv Albert and Mike Fratello provide the commentary, and the NBA arenas frame the action. The soundtrack features EA SPORTS TRAX, while Dolby Surround is supported by this GameCube release.
GameCube Play
One to four players can play together on the same GameCube. Saving uses a GameCube memory card; the North American packaging lists 132 blocks. This description covers the GameCube game and its local play. The EA SPORTS Nation online functions advertised for PlayStation 2 are not GameCube features.
