About the Game
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for Nintendo GameCube turns a young prince’s mistake into an adventure through a ruined palace. After taking the Dagger of Time during a raid, he is deceived by the Vizier into releasing the Sands of Time. The palace’s inhabitants become hostile sand creatures, and the Prince must use the dagger to undo the disaster. Farah joins him on the journey, helping him find a way through chambers that are collapsing around them.
Finding a Route through the Palace
The environment is a connected sequence of movement puzzles. A gap may require running along a wall before jumping toward a pillar, while a high ledge can be reached by springing between opposing walls. Bars, ropes, narrow beams and ledges extend the routes through each room. You link these actions together while avoiding spikes and moving traps, judging where the Prince can grab, land or continue his run.
Switches, pressure plates and machinery open passages, sometimes for only a short interval. Farah can reach narrow spaces that the Prince cannot, letting the pair open routes for each other. She is also an archer who helps during combat. Her assistance belongs to the single-player adventure: you still control the Prince, and protecting her can become part of a fight.
The Dagger of Time & Combat
Time reversal lets you revisit the seconds before a missed jump or damaging encounter and attempt a different action. It makes experimentation part of learning a room’s route, but the dagger has a limited supply of sand. Other powers slow the action or freeze an enemy, giving you a different opening when several creatures are pressing in. Managing the dagger means deciding when to spend that protection and when to trust your next move.
Sword attacks, blocks and acrobatic counters handle the fighting, while the dagger draws the sand from defeated creatures. Vaulting over an opponent or rebounding from a wall creates attacks that connect the Prince’s movement skills to his combat. Water restores health, and progress through the palace increases his health allowance and the capacity available for time powers. New swords also arrive during the adventure.
Atmosphere, Unlocks & GameCube Connectivity
The palace moves between sunlit heights, richly furnished rooms and underground spaces. Smooth character animation makes the Prince’s runs and leaps a major part of its presentation, while the exchanges with Farah give the journey an ongoing conversation. The adventure follows a set route through these environments, combining traversal, puzzles and encounters as the story advances.
The GameCube disc also contains an unlockable version of the original Prince of Persia. Finding the appropriate breakable wall provides one way to access that earlier game. Optional Game Boy Advance connectivity offers another: completing the relevant switches in the separately available GBA version unlocks it on GameCube, and connecting the two versions enables automatic health regeneration in the GameCube adventure.
The main adventure is for one player using a GameCube controller, with a memory card for saving progress. The optional link features require a compatible Game Boy Advance, the GBA version of The Sands of Time and the Nintendo GameCube–Game Boy Advance cable.
