Sonic Frontiers
Uncover the secrets of the Starfall Islands
Sonic Frontiers sends Sonic, Amy, and Tails toward the Starfall Islands while they follow traces of the Chaos Emeralds. A wormhole separates the group and pulls Sonic into Cyber Space. After escaping to Kronos Island, he finds ancient ruins, unfamiliar enemies, and a mysterious voice guiding his search for his friends. The enigmatic Sage appears along the way, adding another question to what the islands are hiding.
The open-zone structure lets you choose how to move through large landscapes rather than follow one continuous course. Puzzles, side quests, structures to climb, and hidden paths create reasons to change direction. You can investigate a nearby challenge, head toward the next encounter, or pause for fishing. Speed still connects those activities, but deciding where to use it is part of the experience.
Cyber Space entrances are scattered among the ruins. These stages were created with ancient technology and draw on Sonic's memories, bringing a more focused form of platforming alongside the island exploration. Their concentrated routes and speed-running challenges give you a place to refine a run and test your control. Moving between a broad landscape and a tightly defined stage changes the kind of attention the game asks of you.
Combat gives Sonic more options than a basic jump attack. Combos, dodges, parries, counters, and skill-tree abilities let you respond to the islands' mechanical enemies. The Cyloop adds another tool to his move set. Positioning and timing matter when an opponent interrupts your movement, creating a shift from crossing the landscape quickly to reading an enemy and choosing an opening.
The largest confrontations are against the Titans. With the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic transforms into Super Sonic and takes those battles into the air. The scale of these encounters connects the smaller discoveries on the islands to a much larger threat. Away from those fights, the ruins and their inhabitants keep the mystery present while you work toward finding Sonic's friends.
Action Style and High Speed Style offer different control settings. Action Style emphasizes accessible, accurate platforming, while High Speed Style favors the traditional speed-focused feel. You can choose the approach that suits your movement in both the islands and Cyber Space. This is a single-player adventure; the physical Xbox version supports Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles with a compatible disc drive and uses Smart Delivery.
