The Sims 2: Pets
About the Game
The Sims 2: Pets is a standalone life-simulation game for Nintendo GameCube, not an add-on that requires another title. You create a household, build and furnish its home, guide each Sim through daily needs and long-term aspirations, and add cats or dogs whose personalities affect life under the same roof. The result keeps the open-ended structure of the console Sims 2 while making animal care, training, and companionship part of nearly every routine.
Create Sims, Cats & Dogs
Create-a-Pet provides control over an animal's body, head, coat, markings, accessories, and personality. You can begin with a recognizable breed or combine traits to make a custom dog or cat. Sims receive their own appearance, personality, and aspiration choices, so the family can be designed around a goal or simply allowed to develop through play. A locally generated Pet Sharing code can reproduce a created pet in another copy of the console game.
Everyday Life & Long-Term Goals
Each Sim has motives to maintain and wants to pursue. Work, relationships, meals, hygiene, rest, entertainment, and household responsibilities compete for time, while aspiration rewards encourage a longer view of the family's progress. Sims can build seven skills and pursue ten careers, prepare recipes by combining ingredients, collect items, and improve their surroundings through Build and Buy modes. Family inventory provides a place to hold furnishings and other possessions while the household changes.
You may use Direct Control to move a selected Sim through the world or switch to Classic Control for a cursor-driven approach. The two schemes change how you issue instructions, but the underlying challenge is the same: coordinate several personalities whose motives and priorities do not always align. Pets remain autonomous rather than becoming directly controlled characters, so the owner has to teach, reward, and correct them.
Training & Pet Progression
Dogs and cats develop wants, motives, relationships, and learned behavior of their own. Repeating commands teaches pets new tricks and helps build obedient behavior. Praising or scolding an action reinforces household behavior, including where a pet sleeps, what it scratches, and how it treats other family members. Pet points earned through play and objectives open additional customization choices.
Town Square expands the routine beyond the home. Sims can meet other owners and animals, shop for pet supplies and clothing, and use services built around their companions. Stray animals can enter the family's story, and compatible pets can breed. These systems give the household more to manage than a decorative animal and create new consequences for a poorly planned day.
GameCube Play Requirements
This North American GameCube release is for one player offline and uses a standard GameCube controller. A Nintendo GameCube Memory Card is required to save the household and its progress. The household, Town Square, and pet-sharing features described here are local console play.
