About the Game
TimeSplitters 2 is a fast-moving first-person shooter built around a chase through history. Sergeant Cortez and Corporal Hart pursue the TimeSplitters as the creatures carry time crystals into different eras, turning each mission into a new setting with its own weapons, enemies, and objectives. The ten-stage Story mode moves from a Siberian dam and Prohibition-era Chicago to the Wild West, a robot factory, and the far future without losing the responsive arcade feel that ties the campaign together.
Story Missions & Combat
Each level combines shooting with objective-based exploration. You may need to recover an item, protect a character, activate equipment, destroy a target, or find an exit while fighting guards, soldiers, mutants, robots, and the TimeSplitters themselves. The weapon selection changes with the period: revolvers and Tommy guns share the wider arsenal with shotguns, rifles, explosives, energy weapons, and improvised tools. Several guns have alternate functions, and compatible sidearms can be carried in pairs.
Difficulty does more than make enemies tougher. Higher settings expand the mission demands, so learning a route and understanding the objective list become as important as accurate shooting. Story can be played alone or as a two-player cooperative campaign on the same GameCube. The co-op option lets both players work through the time-travel missions together rather than limiting shared play to separate battle arenas.
Arcade, Challenges & Unlocks
Arcade mode is the competitive center of the game, supporting up to four local players with computer-controlled bots. Its rules extend beyond ordinary deathmatch and team deathmatch to objective and possession variants, with match settings that let players adjust weapons, limits, teams, characters, and other conditions. Arcade League turns prepared matches into a solo progression, awarding medals and opening additional characters and options as you improve.
Challenge mode uses compact, specialized scenarios instead of a conventional match. The goals range from survival and target tests to deliberately strange assignments, giving the game a place to explore its comic side. Medals across Arcade League and Challenges provide a clear incentive to replay events for better results. Hidden retro-style mini-games add another collectible diversion inside the larger package.
Build Your Own Matches
MapMaker lets you assemble stages from themed rooms and corridors, then place weapons, armor, spawn points, bags, enemies, lighting, music, and objectives. Simple and advanced editing options make it possible to create a quick arena or a more directed single-player mission. Created maps can be saved and played locally.
GameCube Play Requirements
This North American GameCube release supports one to four players offline. Two-player Story uses local split-screen, while competitive Arcade play can use four GameCube controllers and bots. A Nintendo GameCube Memory Card is needed to retain progress, profiles, unlocks, and created maps.
