Build a rock career one note at a time

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock turns a scrolling five-lane note chart into a performance challenge built around fret buttons, strumming and timing. Successful phrases raise the score multiplier and fill Star Power; missed notes pull the Rock Meter toward failure. Adjustable difficulty lets newcomers learn the patterns while the later Expert charts demand faster chord changes, rapid strumming and precise hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Work through songs, venues and rivals

Solo Career is organized into eight tiers. Completing songs opens new sets, earns in-game money for the store and leads to guitar battles against featured opponents including Tom Morello and Slash. Battle rules turn accurately played phrases into attacks that interfere with the rival note chart, making these confrontations different from an ordinary score contest.

Co-op Career gives two local players a separate route through the set list, with lead, rhythm or bass parts depending on the song and different songs and store items to unlock. Quickplay provides direct access to opened tracks, while Practice lets you isolate material before returning to a career attempt.

Compete with several local formats

Face-Off alternates portions of a song between players, Pro Face-Off gives both players the full chart, and Battle adds offensive power-ups. The licensed set list spans more than 70 tracks, combining original master recordings and selected re-recordings or covers with bonus songs earned through play. Animated venues, crowds and customizable characters frame the note highway without distracting from it.

Wii guitar and Remote requirements

The Wii version is designed around a compatible Guitar Hero guitar controller. Its original Gibson Les Paul controller houses a Wii Remote, using the Remote for wireless communication, vibration and speaker feedback. A compatible guitar controller and Wii Remote are required for this style of play; two-player guitar modes require two compatible setups. This catalog listing is for the game and does not promise that a guitar controller or Wii Remote is included with any condition variant.

Wii-specific features and service status

The Wii release was built without downloadable-content support, so its on-disc and unlockable songs are the available library for this version. It originally supported online competitive play through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but Nintendo discontinued that Wii service in 2014. Solo Career, Co-op Career, Quickplay, Practice and local competition remain offline play options.

The North American release is rated T for Teen by the ESRB for Lyrics and Mild Suggestive Themes.
