About the Game
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits rebuilds 48 songs from the series’ earlier guitar-focused releases for the full-band format introduced by Guitar Hero World Tour. The selection draws from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Rocks the 80s, Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, replacing earlier cover recordings where applicable with master recordings and adding charts for bass, drums and vocals.
Performance & Progression
Guitar and bass parts use the familiar colored-note highway, including sustained notes, hammer-ons, pull-offs and World Tour-style slider passages. Drum players receive dedicated percussion charts and an Expert+ option for compatible two-pedal setups, while vocalists match pitch and phrasing through a microphone. A career structure carries the band through themed venues and unlocks additional content, and Quickplay makes the available catalog easy to revisit. Local cooperative and competitive modes support a single performer or a complete band, with difficulty selected separately for each part.
Wii Hardware & Current Play
The Wii version supports compatible guitar, drum and microphone controllers, with Wii Remote and Nunchuk functions used where the selected instrument setup requires them. One to four players can perform together locally. The original release also supported Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection play, but Nintendo discontinued that service on May 20, 2014, so official online competition is no longer available. Career, Quickplay, practice and local band modes remain playable offline. Developed by Beenox and released in North America on June 16, 2009, the Wii edition is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
