Lead an X-Men team through a comic-book campaign

X-Men Legends is an action RPG that follows Alison Crestmere, a teenager whose magma powers draw the attention of Mystique and the Brotherhood. After Wolverine intervenes, Alison is taken to Xavier's school while the X-Men respond to connected crises involving anti-mutant forces, Sentinels, the Morlocks, Weapon X and Magneto's larger plan. The story alternates field missions with visits to the X-Mansion, where conversations, character histories and unlockable material fill in the wider Marvel setting.

Build and command a four-mutant squad

Each mission sends a team of four into real-time combat. You can switch instantly between active heroes while the remaining members are controlled by the game or by local players. Quick strikes, power attacks, throws and environmental destruction sit alongside character-specific mutant abilities. Combining powers on the same target produces stronger team attacks and extra experience, encouraging squads with complementary physical, energy and mental strengths.

Shape powers as the roster levels up

Experience levels award points that can be assigned to statistics and mutant abilities. Upgrades may increase damage, add extra hits or expand an attack into a new form, and the game does not provide enough points to maximize every option. Automatic point distribution is available, but manual builds let players emphasize favorite heroes and roles. The playable roster grows to 15 mutants, so team composition can change as new characters join.

Train, explore and collect at the mansion

Extraction points let the squad save, buy items, switch members and return to the Danger Room. Training begins with combat basics and expands through discs found during missions, including character-specific challenges with unique rewards. Comic covers and concept art add a collection layer, while the mansion provides quieter story scenes between large combat areas.

Drop-in local co-op

The North American GameCube release supports one to four offline players. Additional players can join an action stage and take control of squad members, while unused heroes remain under AI control. Cooperative campaign play shares the same progression and team systems as solo play; saved exact-release data also records local versus options.
