A Young Dragon and the Stolen Gems
Battle of Giants: Dragons puts you in the role of a young dragon trying to restore peace to a land whose powerful gems have been stolen. An elder dragon guides the adventure, while encounters with hostile dragons turn the search into one-on-one fights.
Your choice of element gives the dragon its identity: Fire, Ice, Wind or Earth. The North American package highlights using each element's powers alongside attacks with the head, tail and claws. Flight and elemental attacks are part of the same creature's arsenal.
Exploring and Drawing Your Attacks
The stylus guides your dragon through four worlds, with routes explored on the ground or in the air. Tapping the dragon starts flight. Approaching an enemy moves the action to a separate battle screen, so exploration leads into individual contests rather than a continuous brawl.
Combat uses touch-screen gestures to choose and carry out attacks. Panels beneath the dragons correspond to body parts; slashing toward the opponent issues an attack, followed by a connect-the-dots input. The Dirga orb meter supplies attack energy, and drawing extra orbs can build a stronger attack. A successful dodge can take orbs from the opponent.
Breath attacks use a different gesture: rub the stylus between the dragon's wings and aim the flames. The battles emphasize choosing how your creature attacks and drawing the required input, with claws, tail strikes and breath all contributing to its fighting style.
Gems, Body Parts and Appearance
Defeating dragons can earn gems that fit into body parts and expand the available attacks. Exploration also sets objectives such as finding gems and burning crystals, making the return from a battle part of the larger search through the world.
Changing your dragon's color and markings gives the creature a personal appearance. These cosmetic choices do not change its stats. Earning further body parts lets you customize the creature as the gem hunt advances.
Local Challenges and DS Presentation
Dragons roar and clash with bright impact effects and occasional screen shakes. Guidance from the elder introduces the creature's task. Automatic saving supports returning to the adventure between short sessions.
Local multiplayer offers one-on-one duels and a tournament for up to four players. The North American Nintendo DS package lists both one-to-four-player Single-Card Download Play and Multi-Card wireless play. Multi-Card sessions require one Game Card per player; each participant needs a compatible DS system for wireless play.
