Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
About the Game
In Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 , hopeless leaders of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time so that they can change history. A new alternate timeline appears where the Soviets now find themselves as the leading superpower but also discover something else has gone terribly wrong. A large war is raging, the Japanese Empire of the Rising Sun has risen in the east challenging the Soviet bid for world domination. A three-way war now emerges between the Soviet Union, the Allies, and a new Empire of the Rising Sun faction.
Story & Setting
A major part of the experience is 3 campaigns (one for each faction) with 9 missions each.
Gameplay & Core Systems
The game follows the tradition of the Command & Conquer series where players must build up bases and produce a massive attack force to destroy all enemies. players may choose any one of the three factions, each with a different array of infantry, armored vehicles, aircraft, ships to fight with, as well as buildings with new technologies, upgrades, and the all-powerful superweapons. Players do all their building from a sidebar, this allows them to create production queues and deploy structures fast and easily. Each faction also builds and techs up differently - Soviets plant buildings immediately as they are gradually constructed and tech up through advanced structures, Allies plant buildings once they are finished like in prior C&C games and tech up through upgrading construction yards and outposts separately, while the Empire of the Rising Sun unpacks buildings from slow Nanocore units at any point on the map, and tech up each building individually.
Standout Features
- Also, players can gradually unlock upgrades and support powers through the Threat Meter, in a way similar to Command & Conquer: Generals - the more players engages in combat, the faster they will get points to spend on unlocking these bonuses.
- There is also a larger variety of neutral "tech" buildings introduced in Red Alert 2 , and many maps include structures garrisonable by infantry.
- Ore is gathered from nodes rather than open fields, so only one miner can operate a single mine, and once a mine is depleted, it can still bring income but at a considerably lower rate.
- Additionally, there is a larger emphasis on naval battles, which is reflected by most maps having large water areas and the fact that many units are amphibious, while almost all structures can also be built on the water - from construction yards to defensive turrets and superweapons.
- Finally, almost all units have a special ability, which allows them to compensate for some of their weaknesses, to attack targets they normally would not be able to, or to transform into a completely different operating mode.
- Uniquely, they are all played in forced co-operative mode that is played either between two players online, or by one offline player joined by an AI-controlled, live-action co-commander who can be given simple commands (strike target, plan attack, take position, act at will).
- Skirmish and multiplayer modes allow up to 6 players to engage in a variety of maps.
- The Xbox 360 version is almost identical but modified to the console's controls.
