About the Game
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! changes the series formula by placing two characters in every kart. One drives while the partner handles items, and the pair can swap positions during a race. Character combinations affect available karts and special items, so choosing a lightweight duo, a heavy team or a mixed pair changes acceleration, handling and strategy. Familiar shells, bananas and mushrooms return alongside character-specific tools such as Bowser’s giant shell and the Chain Chomp.
Racing & Battle Modes
Grand Prix moves through themed cups at multiple engine classes, while Time Trials focus on clean laps and unlockable staff ghosts. Versus mode lets a local group customize races, and Battle mode offers arena-based competition through Balloon Battle, Shine Thief and Bob-omb Blast. A single player can manage both riders, or two players can cooperate in one kart by dividing driving and item duties. The two-rider system makes timing a character swap as important as choosing when to use an item.
Local Multiplayer & LAN
One to four players can race or battle on a single GameCube with no online service required. The disc also supports local-area-network play between multiple GameCube systems. That setup requires a separate copy of the game, display and Nintendo GameCube Broadband Adapter for each connected system, plus the appropriate network cabling. Nintendo’s original specification supports up to eight solo drivers or sixteen participants when two players share each kart; it is local LAN functionality, not an Internet matchmaking service. Developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo, the North American GameCube release arrived on November 17, 2003 and is rated E for Everyone. The listing’s bonus-disc variant retains its separate merchant barcode and is not treated as the standard package.
