Lara follows a mythic trail beneath the modern world
Tomb Raider: Underworld continues the story developed through Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Lara Croft's search for answers about her missing mother leads from the Mediterranean and the coast of Thailand to Mexican ruins and the Arctic Sea. Norse mythology becomes the connecting thread as she searches for artifacts associated with Thor and tries to understand how Avalon fits the evidence left by earlier expeditions. The plot is a globe-spanning archaeological thriller, but the Wii campaign remains focused on exploring tombs, reading spaces and solving mechanisms rather than delivering uninterrupted gunfights.
Explore large ruins through acrobatic traversal
Lara runs, climbs, shimmies along ledges, balances, crawls, swims and jumps between surfaces. The Wii manual adds details that matter moment to moment: a safety-grab motion can prevent a fall, fast traverse speeds movement along ledges and ladders, and the chimney jump lets Lara rebound between close opposing walls to gain height. Movable poles can become climbing aids, portable objects can be carried or thrown, and environmental routes often wrap above or behind the first visible path. Progress depends on looking across the whole room and identifying which surface, ring or object can connect one position to the next.
The grapple is both a traversal tool and a puzzle tool. It can attach to rings, pull movable objects, support a swing, create a rappel route or wrap around scenery before Lara applies force. Wall runs carry momentum across otherwise unreachable gaps. Underwater sections add a breath meter when diving gear is unavailable, so exploration has to account for a safe route back to air. The all-terrain motorcycle changes the pace in wider environments, providing acceleration, braking and tight turns as well as transportation between puzzle spaces.
Solve Wii-specific archaeological puzzles
Nintendo's exact Wii page emphasizes environmental puzzles woven into the ruins, and the Wii version adds its own control and level adjustments. Lara carries a multi-tool with archaeological instruments, including pliers and a micro-acetylene torch; context prompts select the right function when a mechanism needs attention. The Wii Remote also controls the camera and supports the platform's aiming and puzzle interactions. These features are specific to this port, so shoppers should not assume that a walkthrough or control guide written for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC maps perfectly onto the Wii stages.
If a room remains unclear, the PDA offers graduated help. Area Info tracks the treasures and single relic hidden in the current area. Sitcam presents several views that highlight doors, secrets and interactive devices without drawing the full route. Field Assistance can first identify what deserves attention and then give a more direct task. This allows players to preserve the satisfaction of solving a space independently or ask for a stronger nudge when a mechanism stalls progress.
Combat interrupts exploration without replacing it
Human, animal and supernatural enemies appear along the journey. Lara can lock onto targets, switch weapons, fire, throw grenades and perform evasive rolls or somersaults. Health regenerates after damage, reducing the need to hunt for traditional health packs. Situational Adrenaline slows time during sudden dangers but leaves control in the player's hands, turning what might have been a fixed quick-time event into a brief reaction test. The Wii version has an enhanced targeting approach and Remote-controlled camera, but it is still a one-player third-person adventure rather than a motion-only shooting game.
Checkpoints, collectibles and replay
Each level contains checkpoints that restart Lara after a fatal mistake, yet the Wii manual distinguishes checkpoint recovery from permanent saving. Leaving without saving can discard progress made after the last manual save. Four save slots support separate progress records. Completing the adventure unlocks the option to revisit locations, making it possible to return for missed treasures, relics or important items. Collectibles therefore reward careful observation during the first trip while the revisit option prevents a single overlooked path from ending completion efforts.
This structure creates two layers of progress. The story advances as Lara reaches new countries and uncovers the next piece of the Norse mystery. Within each area, traversal knowledge, solved mechanisms and collected secrets mark mastery of the environment. There is no character-level grind or equipment shop; improvement comes from understanding Lara's movement vocabulary, seeing routes faster and using the PDA only when needed.
Ancient scale with a darker cinematic tone
Ruins are designed as places rather than isolated puzzle rooms. Tropical coastlines, submerged architecture, stone mechanisms and frozen landscapes create strong shifts in color and atmosphere. Music and cutscenes maintain a serious adventure tone while the camera moves from close traversal to broad views that communicate scale. ESRB rates the PlayStation 2 and Wii versions T for Teen with Animated Blood, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes and Violence and lists No Interactive Elements.
Exact Wii requirements and display facts
This listing is for the North American Wii optical-disc version. It uses a Wii Remote and Nunchuk, supports one offline player and does not require a current network service. The accepted record identifies Crystal Dynamics as the developer and Buzz Monkey Software as the Wii port studio, with Eidos and Warner Bros. Interactive among the North American publishing roles. Saved technical data supports progressive-scan 480p and widescreen presentation; PAL 50Hz and 60Hz values also appear in the native field but are regional PAL facts and should not be promoted as North American Quick Specs without a scoped correction.
