Three merged Tetris playfields facing a separate boss board in Connected mode

Tetris Effect: Connected puts some surprisingly strange jobs around a familiar falling-block game. You can revive a teammate to a beat, occupy the boss’s side of a match or use a PS VR2 feature that turns closing your eyes into an input. The blocks are familiar. The surrounding rules deserve a closer look.

Here are ten verified details about Connected, with the relevant modes and hardware kept explicit. This covers that game, not the separate Mixed Realities or Party Edition releases. Gameplay explanations below follow Enhance’s official descriptions and publisher-hosted community guide; the observations about why they matter are Zypher editorial judgment.

1. PS VR2 can turn a blink into a Zone command

With the relevant eye-tracking option enabled, the PS VR2 version lets you enter Zone by closing and reopening your eyes. That is an actual feature in the official PS5 and PS VR2 announcement, not a metaphor for concentrating. It gives the headset an input beyond the controller. Keep the qualification attached: this is a PS VR2 option, not a universal trick for every version.

2. A twenty-line Zone clear has its own name

The publisher-hosted community guide calls a twenty-line Zone clear an Ultimatris. Zone holds cleared rows at the bottom while you continue stacking, allowing totals beyond an ordinary four-line clear. The same guide calls twenty-one lines a Kirbtris, named for the first player to achieve it, Kirby703. The extra vocabulary makes sense once four lines are no longer the ceiling.

3. Connected really joins three playfields

In the cooperative Connected mode, three players’ Matrices join during the shared Zone to attack an AI boss. The publisher’s current mode description makes that merger explicit. Teamwork therefore changes the playing space, rather than merely placing three independent score displays beside one another. The featured screenshot shows the result: one wide team board facing the boss’s separate space.

4. Reviving asks you to follow the clap

Enhance’s current FAQ says to tap a rotation button to the clap’s beat to fill the revive meter. Teammates can help with Tetris Line Clears or T-spins. Your comeback is partly a rhythm task, with the surviving players able to contribute. That gives a knocked-out teammate a job beyond watching the others struggle.

5. A human can take the boss role

Connected Vs. puts a fourth player opposite the team as the boss. The current FAQ lists Friend and Local Matches as available any time, while ranked Connected Vs. appears during Weekend Rituals. Arrange a private session and somebody can take villain duty without waiting for the ranked event.

6. Classic Score Attack changes the controls you rely on

Classic Score Attack removes hard drop and Hold, shows only one upcoming piece and locks pieces immediately on contact with a surface, according to the official game page. Its older rules are a substantial change from modern Tetris settings. The familiar-looking blocks can therefore demand a different rhythm. Read the mode name before assuming your usual last-second adjustment will still be available.

7. Mystery can turn the board upside down

The community guide lists an Upside Down effect that flips the displayed Matrix and inverts directional controls. Another effect makes pieces four times their normal size. Mystery is therefore doing more than changing the background scenery. It can interfere with how you read and control the stack. A tidy plan has to survive a rule change, which is a rather different question from stacking faster.

8. Score Attack lets you compete without sending attacks

Ordinary Score Attack is a one-on-one contest without exchanged Line Attacks, as Enhance explains on the game page. The higher score after both games finish decides the result. That makes it a useful choice when two players want competition built around scoring, rather than sending trouble into the other person’s board. Do not confuse it with Zone Battle simply because both have an opponent.

9. Cross-play does not mean universal cross-progression

Enhance’s FAQ supports cross-platform online play but limits progress transfer. It identifies exceptions among Xbox/Microsoft versions and from PS4 to PS5; moving from Epic or Windows to Steam does not transfer progress. Meeting friends in a match and carrying a save to another purchase are different promises. Check both before changing editions.

10. A Friend Match room can hold eight people in total

The current publisher Steam description gives Friend Match rooms an eight-person total capacity and allows spectators to emote. That means players and spectators together, not eight extra observers on top of the competitors. It is a useful distinction when arranging a small group session: some friends can watch the contest instead of everybody needing an active playfield.
