About the Game

Excitebike 64 turns motocross into a contest of timing, momentum and track knowledge. Six riders compete across stadium circuits and outdoor courses, with jumps, tight corners and uneven ground demanding more than a steady hold on the accelerator. Choosing a line through a bend and setting up the next landing are as important as finding a chance to pass.

Learn the Bike, Then Race

Acceleration, braking, turbo and sliding give you several ways to approach a section of track. You can adjust the bike in the air to prepare its landing, and wheelies and stunt moves add another layer to the riding. Each racer has different strengths, encouraging you to find a handling style that suits the course. A tutorial introduces the controls through lessons and tests before you commit to a championship.

Season mode organizes the competition into rounds of five races. Your finishing positions earn points, and the overall result determines whether you move forward; a poor race does not automatically end the round. Progress opens further courses and challenges. Time Trials focuses on improving a lap or race record, while Exhibition Race lets you choose a course for a single event against the computer or local opponents.

Make Your Own Course

The track editor lets you combine straights, banked turns and jumps, test the result, and change the surface between dirt, mud and sand. Its layout tools make building a flowing circuit a different kind of challenge from mastering an existing one. Special courses offer further variations on the motocross formula, extending play beyond the main championship.

Local Exhibition races support up to four players, with a controller for each participant. Season progress and Time Trial records save to the Game Pak; saving custom tracks or a Time Trial ghost requires an N64 Controller Pak.
