Fast & Furious Action Behind the Wheel
Fast & Furious: Showdown turns the film series' chases, heists, vehicle takedowns, and high-risk stunts into a mission-based action racer. The campaign follows a crew across eight international locations and 31 levels, putting the focus on finishing an objective rather than simply circling a track. Missions can involve racing to a target, escaping pursuit, protecting or attacking a convoy, firing from a moving vehicle, using a grapple device, hijacking another car, or surviving a scripted action sequence.
Switch Roles During the Mission
The central system divides the crew into driver, gunner, tactician, and daredevil roles. Driving emphasizes steering, acceleration, braking, drifting, handbrake turns, and nitrous. Gunner sections move the aiming reticle independently while weapons fire from the vehicle. Other sequences ask for support decisions, stunts, or timed button actions. When playing alone, the computer controls the second crew member and the player can switch roles during many missions, choosing the job that best suits the current objective.
Experience, Cars, and Challenge Events
Repeated play earns experience and opens vehicles and modifications that can help with tougher objectives. Mods occupy limited vehicle slots, so choosing a useful setup is part of preparing for a mission rather than a cosmetic-only system. Beyond the 31 campaign stages, Challenge mode contains 24 separate events, including road battles and helicopter-support tasks. The Bonus menu collects concept art, movie stills, and game cutscenes unlocked through play. These are on-disc rewards; they are not promised as separate physical inserts or downloadable extras.
Two-Player Wii U Co-op
Campaign levels and challenges can be played in two-player local co-op. On Wii U, one participant can use the GamePad screen while the other plays on the television, allowing both players to see their own action while sharing the same mission. This is cooperative play, not a competitive race suite: the exact Wii U review found no local or online competitive multiplayer. An additional compatible controller is required for the second player.
What Still Works Today
The campaign, challenges, unlocks, and local co-op are built for offline play and remain the useful core of the disc. Nintendo discontinued Wii U online play and other online communication on April 8, 2024, so no leaderboard, profile comparison, or network feature should be advertised as available. The game is rated Teen for Mild Language and Violence, reflecting vehicle combat and action sequences rather than a pure circuit-racing format.
