Forsaken 64 puts you inside a heavily armed hover-bike in the ruins of a devastated Earth. A failed experiment has left the planet vulnerable to scavengers, while an automated defense force treats approaching humans as targets. You enter this hostile environment as one of the bikers seeking an opportunity among the wreckage.
Movement is central to the combat. You can maneuver through three-dimensional spaces in any direction, changing height and orientation while trying to keep enemies in your sights. Corridors, open chambers, and concealed threats make positioning as important as firing. Staying mobile helps you avoid incoming attacks and find an angle on turrets or flying opponents.
The Nintendo 64 campaign uses several mission styles. Some ask you to collect important objects, others to escort or defend a vulnerable target, destroy designated enemies, clear an area, or confront a boss. Briefings explain the objective before entry, and mission choices open as you progress. These changing goals give the game a structure beyond repeatedly reaching an exit.
Your bike carries a primary and a secondary weapon, with separate ammunition supplies. Switching between them lets you respond to different enemies or set up an ambush with mines. Weapon boosts improve firepower, while shield energy and hull strength show how close you are to losing a life. If destroyed, collected weapons are left at that location, creating an opportunity to recover them after returning.
Local multiplayer supports up to four players in Max Frag and Last Man contests, with computer opponents available to fill out a match. The first rewards the highest kill total; the second focuses on surviving the opposition. Electronic music and moving light effects reinforce the hostile science-fiction setting. A Controller Pak is required to save campaign progress; the game also supports Rumble Pak feedback.
