NFL Quarterback Club 2000 combines direct control of a football game with the longer decisions involved in running a team. You call formations and plays, read the defense before the snap and choose when to throw, run or change the plan. Pin-Point Passing makes the strength and placement of a pass part of the action, giving the quarterback more to consider than which receiver appears open.
Practice mode provides a useful place to learn those decisions. Choose an offensive scheme, set a defense or practice without one, and adjust field position and the location of the ball. Exhibition games then let you test the result in a full matchup. Weather, quarter length, difficulty and other settings alter the challenge, while substitutions and player energy make the roster relevant during the game itself.
Season play adds schedules, standings, statistical leaders and injury reports. You can select particular matchups to play and let the computer simulate the others. Player Development tracks performances over time, while optional Player Streaks let recent form influence future games. Playoffs provide a separate route through elimination games, and historical and custom simulations let you tackle a defined football situation instead of starting every contest at kickoff.
Roster management supports trades, free agents and custom players and teams. Create Playbook lets you assemble your own selections, and Hyper Audibles provide a way to change the call at the line using a short controller sequence. These systems connect the preparation between games to the choices made on the field.
Local games support up to four players. A Nintendo 64 Controller Pak is needed to retain custom playbooks and coaching profiles. With its television-style commentary and configurable camera views, this release suits players who want both hands-on football and control over the team and its tactics.
