Knockout Kings 2000 builds its boxing around choosing an opening, landing a useful punch and managing the cost of attacking. Its roster brings together recognizable fighters from different periods and weight classes, while a created boxer gives you a more personal route into the sport. You can jump into a Slugfest bout or work through a career in which each result affects your climb through the rankings.

In the ring, movement, guarding and punch selection work together. Jabs, uppercuts, crosses and body punches have different uses, and the boxer’s strong hand changes how basic attacks are assigned. Circling can create an angle or buy time, while leaning and blocking help you survive an opponent’s response. A punch meter builds toward more powerful attacks, but constant offense is not a substitute for watching your own condition.

The health meter shows how close your fighter is to a knockdown. Backing away and defending can help restore resources during a bout, and each interval between rounds provides recovery. If a fighter goes down, the recovery sequence becomes another test of timing and persistence. Adjustable difficulty and control presets let you shape how demanding the contest feels, including a simplified control option.

Career mode starts a boxer low in the rankings and asks you to fight upward. Training improves the skills of a career fighter, giving the gym a practical purpose before the next opponent. Creating a boxer changes appearance and fighting style, while pre-fight information and post-fight statistics help you assess the matchup and understand the result.

The Nintendo 64 version supports local one- or two-player bouts. A Controller Pak is required to save boxer and career data, and Rumble Pak support adds feedback during play. Commentary, introductions and replay controls complete the presentation, but the lasting challenge is reading another fighter’s rhythm and deciding when to commit.
