About the Game
LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham sends its DC cast into a threat extending well beyond Batman's home city. Brainiac uses the Lantern rings to shrink worlds for his collection, forcing heroes and villains to work together to protect Earth. The story moves through space and the Lantern worlds, with Batman and Robin joined by Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Green Lantern as the team changes with the situation.
The main story uses separate, largely linear levels. Fight enemies. Break LEGO scenery to expose parts for useful constructions. Switches and consoles add tasks along the route. Progress often means changing to a teammate with the necessary ability, then combining actions to clear the route. Solo play leaves the other character under computer control, maintaining the paired design when you play alone.
Batman's Sensor Suit reveals hidden objects and turns him invisible; his Power Suit supplies bombs and rockets. Robin's Hazard Suit lets him cross toxic areas, while the Illumination Suit brings light to dark spaces. Available suits can be changed during play, and the gadget wheel helps select an ability for the next obstacle, giving familiar heroes several different roles within a level.
Completing story sections expands the characters and powers available for Free Play. Returning with that broader selection lets you reach secrets and collectibles the original story team could not access. Smaller exploration areas and side quests offer more character unlocks, while studs buy unlockables and Minikits add things to find in the levels. Searching again with a different ability becomes part of progression instead of repeating a route with another costume.
Two players can share the adventure locally. Working together turns character-switching puzzles into coordinated tasks, with one hero helping the other complete a route. Wii U co-op can use separate TV and GamePad views or a dynamic split-screen view that adjusts as the players move apart and together. The North American box lists GamePad, Wii U Pro Controller and Wii Remote with Nunchuk support; a second supported controller is needed for co-op.
Voiced dialogue and music accompany the DC characters. Story scenes add jokes along the way. LEGO minifigures keep the cast recognisable, while familiar locations and outer-space destinations become brick-built scenery. Off-TV Play puts the Wii U game on the GamePad display when you want to play away from the television screen.
