The Force Awakens, rebuilt in LEGO
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens turns the film's conflict with the First Order into a Wii U adventure of character abilities, building puzzles, blaster fights and flying missions. Rey, Finn, BB-8, Poe Dameron, Han Solo and Chewbacca are among the familiar figures represented in its LEGO cast. The opening first revisits the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi, establishing the earlier victory before moving into the newer story. Across the campaign, recognizable locations and events become places to explore and manipulate, with the series' visual jokes woven into the action.
Characters with different jobs to do
Progress through the ground stages combines fighting, platforming and problems that depend on a character's abilities. Droids can interact with machinery, including mechanisms that move platforms, while other characters bring their own ways of overcoming obstacles. Looking at the current party is therefore part of reading a room. A barrier may ask you to find the character who can operate something rather than keep attacking the barrier itself. The variety gives the cast a practical role in moving through the adventure, making changes between characters relevant to the route as well as the story.
Multi-Builds make a loose pile of bricks useful in more than one way. You can choose between different structures, break a construction apart and reuse the pieces for another purpose. Some puzzles call for more than one of those possibilities in sequence, while another build may reveal an optional collectible. That gives building a small decision-making role: examine what each possible object could accomplish, use the one that helps now and reconsider the same bricks when the situation changes. The solution can depend on rebuilding something you have already used, not simply finding another pile.
Blaster cover and cockpit action
Blaster Battles change the usual on-foot action into exchanges built around cover. Nearby objects and structures shelter a character from enemy fire, with opportunities to emerge and shoot back. The surroundings consequently matter for more than decoration or breakable LEGO pieces. You watch where the opponents are firing, use a protected position and choose when to expose the character for a shot. Stormtroopers can build support of their own, including reinforcements and heavier weapons, so the opposing side also uses LEGO construction as part of the fight against the heroes.
Flying sections move the action into recognizable Star Wars vehicles, including the Millennium Falcon and X-wings. The adventure includes dogfights, arena-style space encounters and the Falcon's flight through the wreckage around Jakku. These sections give a different scale to the conflict, with the ship's movement and targets taking the place of the ground stages' character puzzles. Switching between a small group on foot and a vehicle under fire helps the campaign revisit the film's different kinds of action. The same story can ask you to build a route, take cover and then pilot through danger.
Exploring beyond the next objective
Collecting studs and looking for hidden objects accompany the main path through the levels. The game's broader locations also give you space to explore between chapter objectives, including areas associated with Jakku, Takodana, Starkiller Base and the Millennium Falcon. A hidden route or alternate construction can make a familiar area useful again. That gives exploration a purpose alongside finishing the next scene: noticing something outside the direct route may lead to another collectible or activity. The character abilities and Multi-Build choices provide different reasons to inspect the surroundings instead of treating every room as a corridor.
Unlockable bonus missions cover events that take place before The Force Awakens. These include Han Solo and Chewbacca obtaining the Rathtars carried aboard their freighter, as well as additional adventures involving Poe Dameron. The missions expand situations that the film only refers to or leaves outside its main story. Finding the required hidden items and progressing through the game opens these extra sequences, linking exploration to more playable narrative. They give a Star Wars fan a reason to pursue the game's optional goals beyond replaying the scenes already familiar from the movie.
Solo adventure or local cooperation
The Wii U version supports solo play and two-player local cooperation. In cooperative play, the display can divide into separate views, allowing one player to fight while the other works on a puzzle. The players can therefore contribute different actions to the same situation instead of always standing together and doing identical tasks. Discussing who will deal with an enemy or investigate a mechanism becomes part of moving forward. This cooperative mode is played offline on the same console, with the two participants sharing the adventure in the same room.
Voiced characters and dialogue from members of the film cast accompany the LEGO retelling. The recognizable performances sit alongside physical jokes, brick-built scenery and the ability to dismantle and reconstruct objects during a scene. Those elements keep the tone playful even when the heroes are escaping the First Order or confronting its forces. The campaign's identity comes from the combination: cinematic events provide the situation, character abilities and building supply the tasks, and the LEGO presentation gives familiar confrontations room for visual comedy while you work through them.
Wii U version details
Nintendo lists Wii U GamePad support for this version. The bonus missions described above are part of the game's own unlockable content; additional downloadable packs released for other platforms are not available for the Wii U version. Nintendo eShop purchases for Wii U ended on March 27, 2023, so this listing does not promise access to new digital purchases.
