Ridge Racer 64
Ridge Racer 64 brings arcade racing to the N64 with a strong emphasis on speed, drifting, and learning a course well enough to carry momentum through its corners. The roads combine city scenery, coastal stretches, and desert terrain, with turns that reward a confident approach. Automatic and manual transmission choices let you decide how much of the driving to manage yourself.
Quick Play starts a race with a preset car and course, making it a convenient way to learn the controls. Grand Prix is the main competition, where you choose an available track and car before racing against computer opponents. Winning trophies opens more of the game's challenge, while the Garage keeps your collected cars, trophies, and saved Time Attack records together.
Car Attack provides a separate progression loop. Once it becomes available, you challenge a stronger computer-controlled car in a head-to-head race. Beating that opponent adds the car to your Garage, giving later races a broader range of vehicles to choose from. Their different performance characteristics make collecting cars useful as well as a reason to revisit familiar roads.
Drifting is central to the handling. Releasing and reapplying the accelerator can start a slide, while a brief brake input provides another technique for tighter control. Steering out of the drift and straightening the car as grip returns help preserve speed through a bend. Time Attack gives you room to refine those techniques against the clock, and Freerun lets you practise without a fixed lap limit.
Local multiplayer supports two to four players with individual controllers. Battle Mode offers a single race, Stage Mode compares points across a series, and Team Mode pairs drivers for a shared result. Game progress, settings, and Time Attack records can be stored in the cartridge's save slots through the Load and Save menu. Bright scenery, visible tire marks, and the quick transition from corner to straight keep the presentation closely tied to the pleasure of driving.
