South Park
South Park on Nintendo 64 drops Cartman, Kenny, Kyle, and Stan into a first-person fight to save their town from a string of absurd invasions. Turkeys, strange clones, aliens, and other enemies turn the snowy surroundings into a chaotic battleground. The television series’ insults and deliberately crude humor carry through the action, while oversized gadgets replace the usual military arsenal.
The solo Story mode is divided into episodes and stages. Clearing an area involves more than shooting the smaller enemies in front of you: larger tank enemies can create more attackers and advance toward town. Letting one escape threatens the buildings you are supposed to protect. A penalty round gives you a final opportunity to destroy those threats before the town’s damage bar is exhausted.
Your radar helps separate those priorities. It marks enemies, friends, and useful pickups, and points toward town when an approaching threat demands attention. Finding the other children and collecting their gadgets expands your available choices. Switching equipment can also change which child you control, making the four central characters part of the same ongoing adventure rather than four separate campaigns.
Gadgets have primary and secondary functions, with stronger attacks often spending more ammunition or taking longer to deploy. Health, ammunition, and other pickups encourage you to search the area while keeping an eye on enemies moving past you. Stage results recognize enemy defeats, speed, secrets, and how effectively you kept the larger attackers away from town.
Local split-screen multiplayer supports two to four players, with a controller needed for each participant. You can choose an arena and set a time or elimination limit, then use characters unlocked through the Story mode in competitive matches. A Controller Pak is required to save solo progress between sessions. The optional Expansion Pak provides additional display settings; the N64 version’s multiplayer is local, so its modes do not depend on an online matchmaking service.
